The next three days, Charlotte finished her registration. She stopped when Andrew walked seriously in front of her.

"Seems like lately, you've been avoiding me."

"Hey!" No, of course not." She spoken back with crossed arms.

"Really?"

"I stayed home because I'm still settling."

"Don't have time for a friend?"

"Fine, I'm sorry. Wanna get some ice cream?"

"I like the sound of that." He stood up and walked with her to the ice cram guy. They decided to continue their conversation there and sat down in the grass.

"So how are you surviving? I thought you joined the military after high school."

"I did, but honestly I was afraid so after training, I came back home. Worked at the coffee shop, and still deciding."

"It's never too late." Charlotte comforted him. Andrew couldn't help the way she grown up as a woman.

"You sound so grown up now. Same, but so grown up." He says with emphasis.

"Thanks. I guess." She smiled awkwardly, feeling the sibling tension. "But, how's you and Jenny? I never heard much after you left."

"We broke up actually." Charlotte's face was in guilt.

"Sorry to bring it up."

"No, it's totally fine. It didn't seem serious either."

"I see." Remembering, the heartbreak she got after he found out they were dating.

"The idea of settling your life. I never got to it yet."

"Trust me, everyone's different."

"How about you? Seeing someone?"

"I was but kind of in a rock right now."

"I'm sorry if-"

"No, no it's like yours except the non serious part."

"Non serious?"

"Planning the future everything, but life happened."

"You were always the serious girl Charlie."

"Charlie." She repeated, looking away at him for a minute. Then looking back. "Only you would call me that."

"You were only free when you're with me and now traveling. You need to be more out there!"

"I don't know if the world is ready for that."

"But I am at least." Charlotte was flattered with his thoughts.

"I miss this though. I must admit."

"Me too. Seeing you is honestly like the good old days."

"Sorry if you feel like I have been avoiding you."

"At least you made up for it."

"Why do you want to hang out with me so much?"

"I don't know. I'm not used to not talking to you." Charlotte gave him a weird look, inside she was flattered. A feeling in her then came up.

"I gotta tell you something though."

"What's that?"

"I used to have a crush on you back in high school." She sipped melted strawberry ice cream quickly.

"Really?" His eyes widened.

"Yeah, that's what being free is." She laughed awkwardly. "But life happened and that's okay."

"Wow, Charlotte I'm sorry for what-"

"You say that a lot."

"Well-"

"It was high school.  But I'm happy the way we still are." She wanted to change the topic. "I think we should get back. I have to finish unpacking." They both stood up.

"You sure you don't need help?"

"You sure you don't need help?"

"I'm almost done anyway. But thanks for the ice cream."

"So when's our next hangout?"

"We'll see."

"We'll see?"

"We'll see."  Charlotte's last words before she entered the house. Drew smiled after the conversation. Charlotte closed the door and doubts in admitting her old feelings. But its the past, so it's okay? Isn't it?
