In the end of Frozen 2, Elsa returns to Ahtohallan on a ride with the elements.
With all five in Ahtohallan, further magic happens when Gale reminds Elsa of her parents. This triggers visions of her parents. What's seen are visions that aren't memories. Shocked she leaves back to find Anna.

Meanwhile...
Somewhere in the woods is a sad old lady. Missing a daughter that disappeared 34 years ago. By choice, she left the tribe with a broken heart.
As the curse leaves the forest and the fifth element returns to Ahtohallan, she gets a sign that her daughter's energy is still out there triggered by Elsa.
She refinds the tribe and discovers her granddaughters, sharing the information about Iduna.
Parents are found safe, deep in Ahtohallan preserved by magic. Tribe and sisters were needed.
