Midori yawned, sitting on her new bed-scratch that, her 'bed' was actutally a coffin that she made into a bed. She was stuck living with eccentric Undertaker. It's been a week since she'd joined Undertaker at his 'home'. They slept upstairs of his shop, where he luckily had an extra room. She'd been stirred by the smell of something good.. Did Undertaker cook breakfast?

Midori headed out of her room after putting on a skirt and a shirt. She rubbed her eyes, yawning still. She nearly ran into the strange Shinigami, who had been bringing her something for breakfast. She felt warmed faintly at the thought of that, smiling at her mentor.

"Ah, the girl smiles!!" Undertaker set the plate down on a table and clapped, smirking. She laughed, amused.

"I do indeed, Undertaker. Oh, don't call a parade yet." Midori laughed, joking. Undertaker joined in her laughter and they soon stopped. Midori sat down, now across from Undertaker at the table. He'd made eggs and toast. Both burnt. But, hey, at least he had the thought. She bit her lip, watching Undertaker eat. "Uhm... can I ask a question?"

"Sure but, can I have an answer?" Undertaker replied, looking up from behind his hair. Midori smiled, amused. She nodded and he asked, "Do you have interest in enlisting a contract with someone?"

"No. I'm not like Grell... other than my obsession with the color green.." Midori drifted off. She wore a green outfit, as usual. She looked up at him. "When are you gonna start teaching me?"

"Today, you are going to learn about coffins." Undertaker grinned at her reaction. Midori's eyes grew wide and she shook her head.

"What do coffins have to do with being a good Shinigami..?" Midori said, confused.

"Absolutely nothing at all, but that's what you're learning about." Undertaker laughed. Midori put a hand on her forehead. "Midori, do you really want to be a Shinigami?"

"O-of course.. Why do you ask?" Midori replied uncertainly, cutting her egg. She didn't want to be a shinigami, secretly. Undertaker smiled, hearing the uncertain tone.

Good.. Undertaker thought. "Because, if you don't, I'll teach you how to deal with the Underworld as well. You could take over my job if I die." He proposed, for once being serious with the girl. Her eyes widened at the opportunity.

"R-really?! Okay, sign me up!" Midori said, bolting upright excitedly. Undertaker laughed at her, amused by her reaction.

"Alright. Let's start today-but you ARE learning about coffins today!" Undertaker said, grinning. Midori nodded.

*~*

Midori had change to a black dress with green bows on it. She walked downstaires ready to learn about coffins. But found her mentor with a tall man with strange eyes and a short boy with an eyepatch and dark navy blue hair. There were a few others but she barely noticed them. She cocked her head and she came down, green hair flowing behind her. Undertaker turned and kindly beckoned her over. She nodded and came down all the way, joining her mentor.

"Hi... I'm Midori Sutcliff, apprentice to Undertaker." She smiled kindly. She curtsied and bowed, shyly.

"This is my young master, Ciel Phantomhive. I'm his one hell of a butler, Sebastian." Sebastian replied, when Ciel looked to him to introduce them.

"Hehe.. Midori, these two have been come here often for information. Whenever they come, get me if I'm not about or in a coffin, understood?" Undertaker said, looking to the girl with long green hair. Midori was eyeing Sebastian, curious.

"Yes... but, Undertaker, why do you help a demon and a contracted human?" Midori asked, looking at her mentor.

"Sebastian gives me one hell of a first rate laugh but, more importantly, because they are my customers after all. No need to upset the one who polices the Underworld, no?" Undertaker told her. She nodded, understanding.

"Undertaker, what about Jack The Ripper?" Ciel sighed, impatiently. Midori smirked, showing off her sharp teeth.

"Aren't you a bit too young to be searching for someone like them?" Midori asked. Then noticed she'd slipped and said them. She knew of Grell and Madame Red's contract. And that they were Jack The Ripper.

"Them? There are two under the alias of Jack The Ripper?" Ciel asked, surprised.

"N-no... Undertaker.." Midori looked to her mentor, stamppering. Undertaker laughed.

"Ignore Midori, she's a bumbling idiot most of the time." Undertaker told Ciel and Sebastian. Midori dipping her head, her yellow eyes shown her respect for the cover her mentor did. He told her with that usual scary smirk, "Go read one of the books on coffins. We'll start the lesson soon.. hehe.."

Midori's eyes widened nervously and she nodded, darting over to the books. She blindly snatched up one that said, The Ins and Outs of Coffins. She darted to the hidden stairs and went up to read. She went through about a chapter when Undertaker came up to get her.

"Ready to learn?" He asked her. Midori nodded and followed him downstairs. He brought her to a coffin he'd been working on with her. He gestured to the frame. "Try to finish the rest yourself. If you do good, we'll go out to try soul collecting."

"Okay. Maybe we'll run into Grell?" Midori said, brightly. Undertaker had already disappeared. She sighed and turned back to the coffin's fame with a frown. She put in the bottom, constructing the frame all the way them started to reinforce it. About a few hours later, she was painting it black with a simple green rose painted atop. The lining inside was dark green. She felt accomplished as she looked down at it. She jumped when she felt a hand touch her shoulder.

"It isn't too sturdy is it? This coffin will be where you sleep later on tonight. Don't argue.." Undertaker said, amused by her wide eyes reaction. He laughed softly.

"I guess not... fine. Are we going to try soul collecting?" Midori asked, brightening up. Undertaker smiled.

"Yes, hehehe. Go change and get your death scythe. Meet me by the door when you're done." Undertaker said. Midori smiled and darted upstairs to change. She changed into an outfit similar to Grell's Shinigami one, but hers was with a green coat. She grabbed her death scythe- dual knives, that were green too. She grinned, parted her hair like Grell's then jumped downstairs.

Midori was surprised to find Undertaker looking... sophisticated you could say. He was wearing a suit with a black trenchcoat like he used to. His death scythe was a traditional Shinigami scythe that is silver with a skull connecting it all at the top. He actually looked deadly and not like an insane old man. "Come on, we'll miss something if we don't hurry.. hehe..."

Undertaker barely gave her time to catch up as he darted out, leaping on top of a room. She was breathless when she finally caught up to discover Ciel and Sebastian looking at... Grell and some lady in red?! Midori cocked her head, listening in beside Undertaker.

"Ah, I can finally appear before you in my real form! Because isn't it embarassing to appear before a handsome guy without makeup?" Grell gushed to Sebastian, running his hand through his scarlet hair. Sebastian didn't answer. The rest seemed to rush by and soon they were engaged into a fight on the rooftop and in the air. Ciel was fighting-and losing pathetically to-with the woman. It all quieted when the woman was slain and William jumped in to end the fight. Undertaker then lead her away when Grell was being dragged off. Midori whined, wanting to help Grell but let Undertaker take her away to go soul collecting before it got later. They successfully got two before heading back.

Midori laid down in the coffin she made, in her pajamas. She curled up and let sleep take her.
