Bar Of Candy

An elderly man, with some hair

Stops and sits by a bench

Beside a stern looking man who's fair

Who glanced wierdly, and clenched;

Silence was the only

Thing they could hear

The young man stubs his cigar evenly

Stands up and leaves from the near;

But soon the empty spot

Beside the old man is filled

By a shivering man whose coat was in a knot

Silence is again filled;

But then, it is broken

By the young man's growing cries

The old man's senses are woken

He shushes the man as he tries;

'What is wrong?'

Are the elderly's words

Releases another cry that's pretty long

By the young man and begins his notes;

'I am a traveller,' he says

'That got lost after buying a bar of candy,

I don't remember my hotel name or face,

Sitting on this bench looking like a dandy!' ;

The young man wipes his tears

And turns to his new found friend

'I'll pay you back - have no fears,

Do you happen to have money to lend?' ;

The elderly eyes him with non glory

The man rubs his face and says

'I know it isn't a believable story

But it is a bloody true case!' ;

'Nice one, I almost believed you,'

Says the elder man and laughs

'Show your bar of candy and prove it's true.'

The young man stutters and coughs;

'I - I lost the bar, though I have some grain!

I swear I'm not doing a conning crime.'

The elder man laughs again

And says 'Better luck next time.' ;

The young man groans and goes

And the elder one shakes his head

'Poor boy, couldn't cut my nose.'

And bends down to a wrapper of bread;

And sees a bar of candy and picks it

Stunned he understood

The young man was honest and needed it

He runs to the misunderstood;

The young man gets surpised

When elder man shows him the candy

'Sorry my judgement was pint-sized,

You really truly were dandy.' ;

The elder man presses some bills

Into the young man's sweating palm

And also a business card at his will

And says 'Pay when you can, stay calm.' ;

He goes back, at the cold he swore

Feeling satisfacted profound

And sees the stern man who sat before

Searching something on the ground;

He approaches the man, whistling

And taps his arm

'You lost something?'

He nods, and shrugs away his arm;

Now curious, the elder man asks

'Did you lose something handy?'

The stern man looks and replies

'Yes. I lost my bar of candy.'
