charlie was barely paying attention to anything ms. smith was saying, she didn't really care to. her head laid in her arms, crossed over one another on her desk. picking her head up for a slight second, she glanced around the room, and to her left sat ben hanscom, aka the new kid. not that charlie called him that. she caught him staring at the red head in the front of the class, known as beverly marsh. charlie closely watched as he picked up a postcard out of his bag and stared writing on it, assuming it was for beverly. she couldn't quite see what exactly he was writing, but it was short. she got snapped out of her gaze as the bell rang very loudly throughout the class room, indicating class was over and school was officially out for the summer. sure charlie loved summer and all, the sun, the weather, all of it. but there was one problem, she spent most of her time inside her room, mostly because she didn't have any normal people to hang out with. she got out of her chair and threw her bag over her shoulder, stumbling through the crowded hallways, making her way to her locker. she threw some stuff in her back and closed it, walking towards the nearest bathroom.

she stopped in her tracks as she heard greta calling someone in the locked stall, very nasty names. "woah woah woah, what are you doing with that?" charlie said to one of the girls who was picking up a trash bag out of the garbage can. "none of your business, charles." greta spat. "you know it really isn't, but you wanna know what is? the fact that i saw your boyfriend flirting with bella, just thought i'd let you know." charlie said, gretas eyes grew big before she ran out of the bathroom. "well, she's gonna need backup! go!" charlie said causing gretas minions to quickly stumble after her. charlie let out a sigh before looking at herself in the mirror. "they're gone." she said, causing the girl who was in the stall to unlock it and walk out. "beverly?" charlie asked. "hey charlie." beverly said, waking up to the sinks. "thank you for doing that, but you really didn't have to." she also added. "it was no big deal, gretas a bitch anyways." charlie said. "i'll see you around." charlie said again before walking out of the bathroom and to the front of the school. once she pushed through the crowd of kids she finally felt the breeze of summer air brush through her. her eyes landed on a pair of four boys, calling her over. she eagerly walked down the steps and towards them. "hey guys!" charlie said. "h-hey ch-charlie." bill said. "hey charlie." the other four boys said in union. "hey what do you guys wanna do tomorrow?" eddie asked. "i start my training," richie said, "wh-what training?" eddie asked. "streetfighter." richie said, "is that how you wanna spend your summer? inside of an arcade?" eddie asked. "beats spending it inside of your mother." richie said before raising his hand, causing stan to push it down. "what if we go to the quarry?" stanley asked, "guys we have the b-b-b-barrens." bill said. "right." stanley muttered, "betty ripsoms mom." eddie said causing everyone to look over. "is she really expecting to see her come out of that school?" stanley asked. "i don't know, as if bettys been hiding in home ec for the last few weeks." eddie said. "you think they'll actually find her?" charlie asked, "sure in a ditch, all decomposed, covered in worms and maggots smelling like eddies moms underwear." richie said, "shut up, that's so freaking disgusting." eddie said. "she's not dead, she's m-m-m-missing." bill said. "sorry bill, she's missing." richie said, bill started to walk off, richie and charlie followed closely behind him, and eddie and stan following closely behind charlie. "you know the barrens aren't that bad, who doesn't love splashing around in shitty water-" richie said before getting cut off by henry bowers dragging him by his book bag, pushing him into charlie, who fell back onto stan, causing them all to fall to the ground. "nice frisbee, flamer." patrick said taking the small frisbee like hat of off stanley's head. "give it back!" stanley said before patrick threw it into a moving school bus. belch burped into eddies ear while henry walked up to charlie. "what is a popular girl like you, hanging out with these losers? your reputation is on the line here, mayfield." henry said causing charlie to get mad, she couldn't care less about her "reputation." she kicked him in the knee before running behind bill, causing all the bowers gang to laugh at her. henry pushed passed bills shoulder, "you s-s-s-suck bowers!" bill said, "shut up bill!" eddie muttered out. henry turned around, "you suh-suh-suh-say something? buh-buh-buh-billy?" he asked. "you got a free ride this year because of your little brother, rides over denbrough." henry said. "this summers gonna be a hurt train, for you and your loser friends." he said before licking his hand and wiping it on the side of bills face. they all waited for them to walk away before waking up to where bill and charlie were. "ugh! gross!" charlie said before reaching up on her tippy toes and wiping bills face with her shirt.

"changing the subject, seriously guys, what are we doing tomorrow?" eddie asked once again. "first stanley said the quarry, now the barrens?" richie asked. "y-yes. the b-b-b-barens." bill said. "c-ch-charlie, do you wanna c-come with u-us?" bill asked her. she glanced up, looking at the other three boys who had sympathetic looks on their faces, hoping she'd say yes. "i'd loved too." charlie said before a loud blue converatble pulled up beside them, the window slowly rolled down, revealing charlie's older brother, tommy. "moms wants you home by 5!" he said before rolling the window up and speeding away. "what was that all about?" eddie asked charlie. "that's my older brother, tommy." charlie said before walking over to the bike rake, while the boys trailed behind her. "he seems like a dick, no offense charlie." richie said. "none taken, he is one." charlie said before laughing. "i'll see you guys tomorrow!" charlie said before riding off into the distance.
