♤ them, but with present time (2021) things ♤

dallas:

skateboard.

( there were probably skateboards in the late '60s but meh, yk what i mean )

today was the day.
finally, dally's 18th birthday.
you jumped up off of the curtis' couch and handed him your present.
you made sure to be last.
"what's this?" his voice came out soft, gentle, but also full of excitement and confusion.
"open it and see, stupid." he snickered at that, looking down at the small-ish object and tearing the paper back a little. everyone else had gotten him smaller things. mostly decent shit that you would expect. but nobody had yet gotten him what he really wanted.
his face lit up as he stared down at the board.
"didn't think you remembered." he smiled at you.
"of course I did, baby." you whispered, not loud enough for the rest of the gang to hear, making him blush just a little.
"c'mon, wanna go try it out?" he stood, a decent amount taller than you, nodding and walking outside with the gang.
"five bucks says he's gonna fall the first time." two-bit giggled and shook steve' s hand.
"five more bucks says y/n runs as fast as y/p can to kiss his wittle scratches."
you glared at them.
"laugh if he falls and i'm gonna kick your head in." you weren't angry, but frustrated as you continued glaring at them.
dallas was surprisingly okay on his board. he could navigate well and his balance was better than you expected.
but steve didn't wanna lose his bet, so he did the dumbest thing.
"hey dal, think fast!" he threw a fucking rock at him and watched as he tumbled to the ground.
"shit-" you ran over and shoved steve, cursing at him as you walked to dallas calmly.
"you okay, buddy?"
he nodded, chuckling and standing up.
"I'm good."
you fixed up the little scratches on his hands and kissed them all better; he loved his present.

steve:

braces.

steve hasn't talked to you all day. he hasn't opened his mouth at all.
you tried kissing him, but he pushed you away softly.
"baby- what's wrong?" your voice was gentle, but he just shook it off.
the day went on, you all watched tv and you sat beside him, gently massaging his thighs and occasionally smiling at his soft noises.
"tell me what's wrong." he shook his head, still not opening his mouth.
you had an idea of what was going on, but didn't wanna assume things.
so to test the theory, you just had to get him to open his mouth.
your hands wandered around to his inner thighs and his eyes went wide.
"tell me." he still wouldn't budge, so you started rubbing gently, and he gasped.
you caught a glimpse of the shiny metal before he closed his mouth again.
"ohh, that's no reason to be shy, stupid!" he chuckled a little and blushed as you continued, "i had braces as a kid, too, buddy." you sat on his lap and looked down at him.
"yeah?" he whispered, his voice hoarse from not talking.
you nodded, moving so your arms are around his shoulders.
"i think they're cute." he smiled, blushing even more.

sodapop:

iPhone.

"soda, get off of your phone and gimme attention." your boyfriend smiled, playing with your hair but continues looking down at his new iPhone.
"c'monnnn." this was bugging you. you almost regretted giving his older brother the idea to buy it for him on his birthday, almost.
"p-l-e-a-s-e." you sounded seriously upset at this point.
you sat up, scoffed, and started grabbing your things.
now he looked up, "what are you doing?"
"leaving." you didn't make eye contact with him.
"why?" he sounded panicked.
"because you're always on your phone and never pay attention to me." you stuck your tongue out and started walking out of his bedroom, but he grabbed your wrist.
"c'mon babe. stay. please." you shook your head.
"then gimme attention."
and he did.
finally.

ponyboy:

kindle. (if that's what it's called; i forgot man smh.)

pony (unsurprisingly) has been spending  a lot of time on his new little tablet thingy that you didn't really understand yet. he says he's 'reading' but you don't see why he would wanna waste time reading on the thing rather than having actual books in his hands. you don't question it, because it seems to make him happy. but he's a lot more quiet now, even more than he usually is, and he gives you less attention. usually, it wouldn't bother you, and it really doesn't until it gets to the point where you have to ask for time with him. he used to be the one asking and making plans for the two of you, but now he mostly stays on the tablet, curled up in a blanket on the couch. you often lie beside him and he either lays in your lap and you play with his hair or read along with him, or you nap and lay in his. you two don't talk very often in moments like these, which also doesn't bother you.

he decides to explain why the tablet is better than physical books one morning, but only because you ask him about it.

"it's not just the books i have access to here at home," he opens an app and scrolls through book after book after book, making your eyes widen a little bit, "it's books that i've never even heard of before, or books that you can't find in stores anymore, y'know?"

you nod; your eyes trail down along to the books he's been reading recently and smile, understanding now. you two continue talking about things and come to the conclusion that he is using it a little too much, but the phase will pass soon. you two take turns reading on the couch now, instead of just him.

twobit:

tiktok.

two spends a lot of his time on tiktok, mostly just for the funny side of things. you always catch him laughing at something on his phone lately, or showing some of the gang something that he found on tiktok. he doesn't post anything, he just follows a lot of pointless accounts and spends way too much time scrolling through it. you don't mind; the two of you sometimes sit down together and laugh at random videos for hours. he's also into vines, and was upset when it finally died. you two watch vines pretty religiously together as well.

darry:

( will be added later )

johnny:

fairy lights.

he was doing it again.
you were so happy you had gotten the idea to buy your boyfriend fairy lights. they weren't much. just blue and orange lights that he hung on his bedroom walls, (with dally's help) they blinked, and looked really pretty, but not much else.
nonetheless, he loved them.
you walked up behind him, wrapped your arms around his waist, and kissed his cheek, gently.
"baaaaabyyy," your voice was soft and gentle, as if you were trying to calm an upset child, "you wanna head to sleep?" he nodded, still looking at the pretty flickering lights.
"you're staring at them again, babyboy." he smiled at you, blushing a little, before climbing into the bedsheets and pulling the blankets over the two of you, still staring at the lights.
"they're just so pretty, i love them so much." you kissed his lips, very gently.
"i know you do, angel."
and you fell asleep wrapped in each other's arms.
