Kaori and Kousei eventually decided to catch up on each other during the break. It was revealed that not much really has changed with Kaori's personality and mannerisms, as Kousei recalled.
However, even if Kaori has lost most of her memories, Kousei thought that he had already found his answers and decided to move forward. It was perfect timing since Emi was already in the process of contemplating a separation between her and Kousei.
In the end, Kousei was able to convince Emi to continue with their complicated relationship by winning the Maihou Western Japan competition. And with it came another potential obstacle presented by an old rival.
