Janis and Damien left for the spring fling wearing fabulous matching suits (made by Janis of course) with huge grins on their faces.
The year hadn't been the best but that couldn't stop them from having fun and dancing like complete idiots just like they did every year.
Once they'd arrived at they dance they made their normal route to the corner of the hall near the stage to get as far away from their fellow classmates as possible.
A slow song was playing so they swayed side to side with one another (not completely in rhythm but whatever). Damien looked at his shorter friend with sad eyes.
"Avez-vous déjà parlé à Cady?" Damien asked in French (both of them were A students in the class so he knew she'd understand him).
"Non je n'ai pas." She replied, lowering her head slightly.
"Vous sentez-vous merdique?" He asked. She waited a while before replying, lowering her head even more.
"Un petit peu oui." She answered, now resting her head on his shoulder.
"Janis!" She heard through the music. She didn't even have to look to know who it was.
"I'm not in the mood Cady." She said, although it was muffled since she still hadn't moved her head from Damien's shoulder.
"Look, I know you're mad at me and you have every right to be-"
"Yeah I do." Janis cut her off in a deadpan tone, this time looking her dead in the eyes.
She felt numb, her best friend had betrayed her, again. She had every right to be upset.
Cady frowned at the taller girls response. That's when Mr Duvall's voice was heard through the speakers, announcing the spring fling king and queen.
"The Spring Fling king is, Shane Oman!"
People cheered as Shane walked onto the stage.
"And the Spring Fling queen is," he continued, "Cady Heron! Congratulations!" He finally said, the whole room went silent.
"Unbelievable." Is all Janis could say as a dumbstruck Cady made her way on stage.
"I know I only got this crown cause all of you think I pushed someone in front of a bus so, that's not good." Janis watched closely, curious on where she was going with this.
"I mean, just look at this." She held up the plastic tiara, the fake gems glistening in the coloured lights. Everyone watched in confusion, no one usually gave speeches. Cady continued.
"Cheap, fake, easy to break. That's how I used to be....."
* * *
"Hey!" Cady yelled over the once again loud crowd. Janis didn't intend to tell her, but her speech was totally grool....god dammit the shorty had gotten into her head.
"So...we cool?" Cady looked at Janis with pleading eyes, how could she say no?
"Yeah." She said with a smile, "We're cool."
Cady's face lit up with joy, Damien's wore a look of 'I told you so' which nailed him and elbow to the ribs.
The rest of the night was great. They all danced together and Damien somehow convinced Janis to do a karaoke duet of 'Love is an open door' with him, Janis killed it, but Damien just couldn't stop laughing.
Janis and Regina made a truce for Cady's sake. But little did they know they'd regain their past trust and friendship the following year.
Janis looked around at all her friends, old and new, best friends and past enemies. For the first time all year everyone was getting along, and all of them were genuinely happy. Janis wished it could've lasted forever.
"See I told Reginald wasn't so bad!" Cady teased.
"Wait, what did you just call her?" Janis asked with a shocked laugh.
"Oh yeah, in the bathroom earlier she confessed that if she had been a boy her name would be Reginald!" She replied, Janis only responded by bursting with laughter, she squeezed her ribs as she made sure her knees wouldn't buckle beneath her. Once she'd calmed herself she shot Caddy and smirk. She grabbed her hand and began to sway back and forth with the smaller girl, the same way she had earlier that year in the art room as Damien gave one of his famous lectures. Cady reacted to the sudden dancing with a shocked but happy laugh, most likely remembering the same thing. She quickly gained rhythm as she danced with her friend.
Damien caught sight of the duo and gained the others attention with a silly remark.
"And that friends is what you call Lesbian activity." He said with a stupid grin, the others all laughed in unison.
"Oh please, she's probably one of the straightest people I know! And we've literally spent all year trying to hook her up with Prince Aaron McDreamy over there!" She replied sarcastically as she felt her chicks go red, hopefully the multicoloured lights would hide it.
"Aww Janis thinks I'm a dreamy prince!" Aaron said somewhat sarcastically blowing a teasing kiss in her direction, this caused Caddy to buckle over laughing. Janis gave him a death glare before walking over to dance with Karen. That night really was perfect.
