Steve looked around the area. It was the exact same event when he and Tony got here. It was just a while, but it felt like ages ago already. He slightly shook at the memory; Tony was here just a few days ago, and now he's dead.
But now isn't the time for that. He must place the Space Stone back where it belongs. And most importantly, he's seeing someone.
He manages to escape a few agents, and he does get a few close calls. But other than that, he successfully places back the Space Stone. Mission accomplished. Well, sort of.
"Nice job, Rogers," he mumbles to himself before getting out of the premises before someone recognizes his face. "There's one more thing left to do."
-
He's still shaking. He couldn't believe he's about to see her, well, alive. He's finally getting the peaceful life he deserves.
He swiftly moves from corridor to corridor finding the office he's been looking for. And after a while, his eyes laid on a door, with a huge text written on the translucent glass. Margaret Carter, it said. He takes a few deep breaths.
"Well," he whispers to himself, "this is it."
He grabs the metal doorknob, gently twisting it open. The door creaks a little, and it reveals a vintage office with a desk ready for him to see at front. However, he doesn't see Peggy sitting behind the desk. It was empty, but he didn't give up just yet. Just beside the desk is a door that leads to another room. There's a window where he could see if someone's inside or not.
Steve gently closes the door, visibly shaking. He went closer to the desk, seeing a framed picture of his skinny, frail figure in the near 40s, trying to keep up with the rest of the Army. Peggy always remembered, he thought. His eyes moved to the window. Thank heavens the window blinds were open, and there he could see her, talking to a man. Arguing could be a better word to describe it, perhaps. Steve had seen this exact event when he first landed in the room while trying to escape a close call. He didn't mean to break into a room, more specifically Peggy's office. But he's thankful enough to even complain about it.
Soon enough, the man leaves the room, not even paying attention to Steve, which he was thankful for. Peggy doesn't notice his existence either, so he decides to step in.
Before he could even do this, Peggy returned to her desk and stopped to see her visitor. Steve was wearing his cap real low, so she couldn't put a finger on who he is.
Nevertheless, she clears her throat, assuming it's just another random agent, or a soldier. "How can I help you?"
It took Steve a good three seconds to think about his move. He just simply removes his cap, revealing his face. "Peggy..."
In return, Peggy narrows her eyes, visibly showing confusion. "S-Steve? Is that...you?"
"Yes," he smiles weakly, "it's me. I'm here to see you."
Peggy was now on the verge of tears. She didn't care or wonder how he's here alive, surviving the crash and all. All she cared about was that he's here, oblivious to the fact that he's from the future, and at that timeline, Steve was still frozen in ice.
