As Yuriko was explaining the rules to Yumeko, Ryuga looked around the room, trying to find anything entertaining. He wasn't really entertained by watching other people gamble, unlike Suzui. However, not being able to find anything, he listened back in on the match. It was a game called "Life or Death". Apparently, ten sword-like pieces are dropped into a cup, then dropped onto a small, round board that has different holes in it. These holes are labeled from one to thirty. As the cup, with the swords, is being held over the hole, the player places however many chips they want on the holes they think will be filled. However, the twist to the game comes into play when the sword is either face up or face down. If it is facing upward, the player gets what is called "Life", and the chips they placed on that number will be multiplied by thirty. However, if the sword lands downward, it is "Death", and the opposite effect applies. This means that they will lose the number of the chips they put down times thirty. Once the dealer starts shaking the cup with the swords inside, the players have only ten seconds to place their bets. All in all, it's extremely high risk and high reward.
Yuriko: "Do you understand the rules?"
Yumeko: "My~ Yes I do. It seems very interesting."
Yuriko: "Well then, what would you like to bet?"
Yumeko: "Hmm, how about we make each chip worth one million yen?"
Everyone, even Ryuga was surprised at that. That would make the total 40Million yen, and that's WITHOUT landing on death. The risk was truly high.
Yuriko: "Are you sure about that?"
Yumeko: "Yep, let's go!"
The dealer tossed the swords in the cup and began shaking it. Yumeko and Yuriko both went to place their bets. However, in the first round, no one won or lost any chips. Suzui, not being able to take the concern anymore, leaned over to Yumeko.
Suzui: "You should really quit, Yumeko. This game is super risky. You could lose a ton of money and become a pet."
Ryuga's mind: "Well, that seems like that's exactly what she's trying to do... But why?"
Yumeko: "Don't worry, this amount of money isn't much.
As Yumeko and Suzui had a small talk, Ryuga was wondering why exactly Yumeko wanted to be a pet. He didn't know all of the rules of the school, so the pets must have some special benefit that could be useful to Yumeko. However, he knew how pets were treated, as seen by Mary's treatment, and he couldn't understand why anyone would willingly want to endure that.
Ryuga's mind: "She's honestly terrifying... I'd say she might be more terrifying than even my sister."
Yumeko: "But seriously, the way you do things is just despicable."
These words broke Ryuga out of his thought process, as he tried to get a feel of the situation for more information. It looked as if Yumeko was catching on to the way Yuriko crushes her opponent by giving them false hope.
Yuriko: "Excuse me?"
Yumeko: "Did you need me to repeat myself? Perhaps you didn't hear it the first time, so allow me to elaborate it for you. There was no need to make Mary play such a high-risk game as this, given the fact that she only wanted to challenge you in order to gain back some face. You're the kind of person that gives someone false hope when they are down, only to crush them under you once they have put that hope in their hearts. Truly, the lowest of the low. You're like a loan shark. No, that's not quite right. I'd be giving loan sharks a bad name. You're just like shit on the side of the road."
At this point, Yuriko was furious, but Ryuga began laughing hysterically. Yuriko's dealer was furious at Yumeko, and she stood up with her hands clenched.
