"I can't believe it! We had a lot more customers than usual meaning better tips!" Jacob said. Rhydian rolled his eyes. "We're not working for just the money you know?"
"What do you mean? We are! We need money to pay bills Rhydian,"
"I know but the way you say it sounds like you're in it for the money only." Jacob rolled his eyes and as the two made their way to the house, they saw Philip waiting for them, which was unusual.
"Philip? Is something wrong?"
"Yes, Maddy left earlier to find answers about her family."
"Isn't that a good thing? She's been wanting to know more about them," Rhydian asked.
"Yes but what isn't good is who she's with." That's when the boys grew worried, anxious, and angry. "What do you mean Philip? Get straight to the point." Jacob said.
"She's with her Uncle Matthew. Someone who cannot be trusted at all."
"That's all we need to know. Where are they heading?"
"I'm afraid they're going somewhere that you two cannot go," Philip said and the two looked at each other worriedly. "What do you mean Philip? How can we not go?" Philip explained to the two that to get to where Maddy is, they need a map. It isn't an ordinary map, it's a map that only the top people considered have it; those who are close to Maddy's family. But to get the map, the boys need to find someone that is related to Maddy or whoever has the map.
"Luckily for you, I know who has the map and they are here. In this town."
"Spit it out Philip we don't have all day!" Rhydian rushed him. Philip pulled out a book that appeared to have the title 'Those with the Map'. The title wasn't very creative Rhydian thought. They looked inside and read it, then they found out who has the map. Which caught them off guard except for Philip.
....
"Why did you show up now Uncle Matthew?" Maddy and her Uncle were in the woods making their way to a spot that only Matthew knows. Maddy is merely following who she thinks she can trust. "I've heard about your foster parents and what happened so I decided to stop by and visit early. I was already planning to come but I had delays in plans."
"Can you tell me a little bit about my family? Aside from them being criminals, who are they?"
"Well Maddy, your family are caring people. They would help anyone that needs it without a second thought."
"They don't sound like criminals,"
"That's the catch, to everyone else they are nice people but for those who really know them, they are a bunch who likes to steal things and claim it as their own by ridding of the original owners."
Maddy didn't know what to say. She can't believe that her real family are like that. It's making her not want to meet them. Just a little. But her goal is to meet them and find out why they abandoned her.
....
"Rhydian are you sure this is a good idea?" Jacob was feeling very uncomfortable with the plan Rhydian came up with. "This is the only way we can. You think I like this idea any more than you?"
At the moment, they were trying to break into Rhydian's parents house. Their room to be exact. For some reason, the map is with his parent's and he doesn't understand why or how. He didn't want to abruptly ask them because he isn't sure himself if he can trust his parents, knowing that they have a map that leads to criminals.
They got the window open and began to snoop around their stuff. Rhydian checked the drawers and Jacob checked the most obvious places, where he doesn't have to rummage through anything. "Jacob you should be helping me. Not looking in open places,"
"This is your parents stuff, not mine! I don't want to be caught because you can't ask your parents," Rhydian rolled his eyes and kept looking. His parents weren't home luckily, but because they don't know where they are, they have to look fast before they come home.
Jacob decided to go into the closet, without touching anything he analyzed the room. He then noticed a picture behind the clothes, "Rhydian! Come look at this." Rhydian walked over to look at what Jacob found, he saw it was a painting that he has never seen. Of course his parents could have bought it since Rhydian doesn't live there anymore.
But something about the painting caught their interest. Jacob grabbed it and held it, the two looked at it realizing it's a painting of a wolf pack. "Your parent's love wolves of something?"
"No, they don't even like dogs so I don't understand why they have this." Jacob turned it around and there was nothing. Just a regular painting. He was about to put it back when Rhydian snatched it out of his hands. "What are you doing?"
"Hold on," Rhydian thought of opening it to see if there is anything inside the painting. And to his hunch, he was right. There was an old piece of paper folded neatly in the corner. He took it out and opened it, it was map. Jacob peeked over his shoulder and saw what Rhydian discovered.
"Okay man, we found the map so let's go. I don't want us to get caught." Rhydian folded it back up and placed it in his pocket. He quickly put the painting back where it was and the two quickly made their way to the window only to see his parents car pulling up the driveway.
"What do we do now!" Jacob panicked and Rhydian was trying to come up with a plan. "Follow me," He can't believe he forgot about his room. When Rhydian would have to transform, he would escape through his window where no one can see because it leads straight to the woods. Luckily, they escaped just in time as they both heard his parents coming in.
They ran as far as they could until they were out of breath, "I am not doing that ever again. I never felt so nervous," Jacob panted. Rhydian smirked and shoved him a bit, they both began to make their way back to the house.
....
"Sweetie, do you remember placing the ladder here by the window?" Rhydian's parents looked at it and tried to think. Then they looked at one another with a knowing look.
