To Forget

She let her fingers
Sleep against the cold sand
Strands of grass
Entwined her fingers

She stared ahead
Unto the heavens
Clouds disarray
Sun beaming beyond the horizon

Her head nestled on a patch
Of grass and wildflowers
Dry leaves and sand woven into her hair
Wind tousling her clothes and wisps of her hair

She liked the sensation
Grains of sand prickling her soft skin
The sun dazzling and warming her cold fragile body
The breeze cooling her sand covered toes

She could stay here
Under the endless sky
Her body turning brittle
Against the cool grass and sand

The only sound is the crashing of the waves
Roaring as they clashed against rocky pillars by the shore
The gentle humming of a bird nearby
The sound of the wind rustling leaves

There she stayed until dark
When the stars scattered across the sky
There she remained under the soft moonlight
With the city looming in the distance

She danced with fireflies
Drenched in the nocturnal nature of the night
The slow thrashing of the waves washed away all her sadness
And she did not cry, not ever again.
