He couldn't breathe. He took in air, diaphragm flexed, chest expanded, but lost it. He doubled over, the tear in his spacesuit all too evident, all too deadly.
The team had been exploring the rocky planet, looking for a sign of life made possible by the oxygen- rich environment and deep, wild seas. They had found none. But a snagged suit on a nearby cliff face shouldn't be deadly in an atmosphere so similar to the Earth's.
The team approached. He gagged. They knew there would never be life here.
He was dying, and all he could do was laugh.
