Sleeping Beauty?

There once was princess,
A beauty so fair,
With mahogany eyes
And sunshine for hair.

On her 18th birthday
A needle her finger did prick
Gifting her with a nasty spell
Compliments of Maleficent.

For a thousand years she slept,
Guarded by a dragon
As all her people passed away
from magical disease and famine.

To break the evil spell
Approached a soul so brave,
With tooth and sword and nail
The dragon he did slay.

With her dying breath,
She wove her very last curse,
To ensure her death was swiftly avenged
One she thought impossible to reverse.

He opened the door to finally see her,
Fairly bursting at the seams.
His undead heart skipped a beat at the sight of
The flaxen succubus from his dreams.

He kissed her lips; her eyes fluttered open
Recognition, her instant response.
For only one man's kiss in all her life
Had fulfilled her needs and wants.

"Once upon a dream," he whispered,
Recalling how he met her.
Resolutely ignoring Maleficent's final words,
Knowing they held no power over love or "happily ever after."
