"Alice?"
"Alice? Are you in here?"
Sniffles were heard before the younger woman answered. "Yes.. I am here.."
"I thought you were. I'm sorry Alice.. You can't pay attention to anything they say."
"Well, they're your parents Ev! I guess I should pay attention to what they say."
The older woman groaned in frustration. "Not when they're talking like that. Look.. when I first came out, they weren't accepting. At this point, I honestly thought they were over it. And I really wanted them to meet you. I wouldn't have brought you here had I known they would make you upset.."
Alice wiped her eyes. "I know.. I just don't understand how they can be so hurtful with their words.. My dad would never say such things to me, nor the person I'm in love with."
"Yeah. My parents are a different breed, for sure.. Can we go? I really don't want to be here anymore. They've upset you, and they've made me angry by treating you the way they have."
Alice nodded her head. Allowing Ev to take her hand, leading her off the porch & to their vehicle.

"Guess what Luce?"
"What?"
"She asked me to marry her.."
Lucy's face lit up with excitement.
"And?? What did you say??"
"Well, what do you think?! Haha. I couldn't say no. She's the one I love!"
Lucy jumped up, hugging Ev; full of joy.
"I am so happy for you two!! I knew the moment I met Alice that she was the one for my little sister!!"
Ev's face went dim. Thinking back to the day Lucy, and their parents had met Alice.
"Yeah.. I just wish Mother & Pop felt the same. What I'd do for Pop to be apart of my wedding.."
Lucy rested her hand upon Ev's shoulder.
"There will be a day they will regret not being apart of your life. But don't be sad.. we have Uncle Jon! It isn't quite the same.. But, we both know he's the closest to a father either of us have ever had. Pop's never been a dad. Well, never a good one.."
Ev nodded her head.

Dear Evelyn,
If you're receiving this letter, then I am gone. I wrote this upon finding out that I had just a short time left here. And, asked your Aunt Mae to make sure you get this 'if' I ever passed.
I almost contacted you, but felt that unfair since I had chosen to not be in your life for years beforehand. Much to my regret.
I never was a good father from the beginning. Allot I mostly blame to being with your mother. I wasn't really the family type nor ever seen myself having children. Then there was the 'added' rules of social 'graces' your mother always had. The night I met your mother, at a ball. Was the night that all changed, although I wouldn't find out until weeks later. Your elder brother, is the reason I first married your mother. Being of wealth, you can't just have a child out of wedlock. And, you can't just leave the woman of whom you've had the child with. Not without social disgrace amongst the community. Therefore, I felt stuck. Stuck with her, stuck with children. As it was her idea to have more after Christopher. I figured I didn't have anything better to do, I couldn't leave. So, we had more. And, the resentment of my life, I took out on you children. I do apologize for that. Although, I'm not sure of what good that does now.
I do only have one regret. And, that is for playing into our social status, rather than loving my children for who they were. It caused me to lose relationships with both you & Lucy. Although I never lost Christopher, I never had a bond with him either. He has always been more like your mothers side of the family.
I do admire you, for not letting our social status define who you are. Or, who you love.
Something I've never told before is that my brother Charles, was sent away years ago. The reason for this was that he had fallen for a young boy named Arthur. Upon announcing this to your grandfather, it was handled immediately. I never reached out to him, but did befriend his lover's brother who was very distraught over Charles & Arthur's leaving. The last we both heard were they had reunited & were very happy, living in Eastern Europe. Neither of us, could let our pride down to contact them. I started this letter to apologize for never being a person you could come to, or feel love from. And apologize for not accepting you for who you are. I hope maybe you can forgive me. Although, I understand if you never do. Coming shortly after this letter will be your share of my wealth. I hope in some way that it will be of help to you, and your family.
With regards, your father,
Christopher Boykin IX

Ev sat at the table, frozen. She hadn't expected a letter from her father. And, especially not one of that degree. And to learn that he was no longer here.. sent pain to her heart.
Alice walked in, carrying their son Luther.
Her expression became worried, as she seen the tears roll down Ev's face. "Darling! Ev, darling.. are you alright?"
Nothing. Not a word, nor any movement made. Ev hadn't heard Alice. She looked 'in trance', shocked, frozen.
Alice lightly touched Ev's shoulder, causing Ev to jump. "I-I am sorry for startling you.. What is wrong?"
Ev hugged Alice quickly.. weeping into her, and brokenly trying to explain. "I.. A letter.. Father.. Passed.. He apologized.. He's gone.."
Alice was stunned, upon hearing the muffled, broken explanation from her wife.
"There...there..."
"I understand you're hurting.. I am sorry my love.." Alice continuously comforted, while rubbing Ev's back. The young babe on her hip, curiously looking at the scene unfolded. A content, blank expression upon his face, as he was too young to understand what was happening.

A/N: Not sure where this was supposed to go, etc.
