A cat organ design was sketched out by a Athanasius Kircher, a German Jesuit renaissance man operating in the fields of medicine, oriental studies and geology. The cat organ or the katzenklavier was never actually made however. It consisted of a row of caged cats with different pitched meows and when a key on the piano would be played a nail would be driven into the cats tail causing him to meow.
