"LORD DUGREY HAS INSTRUCTED that all members of Castle Drago must prepare for their first ball to commence tonight." My father's footman announced, as what seemed like a never-ending trail of people appeared behind him.

I am taken back by the footman's words. Ball? Castle Drago? Lord Dugrey?... I shuddered. Just the thought of those words being used in the same sentence unsettled me. My father struggled to interact with his own daughter, let alone a bunch of upper class folks crowding him.

Both myself and Magda paused, looked each other in the eye and blinked. "Are... are you sure?" I asked, making sure I hadn't heard him wrong, even though I am quite sure my ears haven't failed me before.

"The ball will commence tonight and both you and Magda have been requested to dress accordingly." He said, before turning around and undoubtedly making his way down to my deranged father. Almost immediately the mound of people outside my bedroom door flutter in, faffing around with numerous extravagant dresses.

"He has finally lost it." Magda mumbled to herself, scratching her chin in disbelief. "Never in my life have I even dreamt of the man willingly plan a social event, let alone spend money on expensive dresses."

Shaking my head in response, I just watched the dressmakers hold dresses against myself and Magda before shaking their heads and pulling out yet another.

About an hour and a half of pure hell had passed and finally the dressmakers left, having selecting both my and Magda's ball gowns out.

"I just want to know how my waist is supposed to fit in that thing." Magda asked, staring pointedly at the dark blue gown, draped over the chair next to her.

A fit of giggles escape me, soon Magda turns around and laughs along with me. The idea of either of us fitting into these dresses seeming completely absurd, myself having never worn a dress like this before.

"I mean, back in the day I may have been able to squeeze myself into a dress like this, but now..." Magda paused, whispering "I'm a 59 year old woman, I've had a child." She laughed.

"Magda, you don't look a day over 30 and you know it." I raised a brow, earning a small laugh in response as she walked over to my bathroom to change. It was true, Magda must have drunk from the fountain of youth as a child or something, her skin was amazing.

Turning back to my bed, I looked at the emerald green dress presented in front of me. It was without a doubt a beautiful dress, it reminded me of the dresses old Hollywood actresses wore in the movies. The thought brought a smile to my face.

Just as I picked up the dress, Magda shuffled out the bathroom with a huff.

I dropped the dress.

"Magda!" I smiled, running over to her, "Look at you! All that rubbish about you not fitting into the dress, it was bullshit and you knew it!" I laughed, shaking my head at her.

"You flatter me, Sage." She said, extravagantly fanning her face with her hands. Looking down at me and over to the dress, now on the floor. "Sage!" She huffed, making her away over to the dress, lightly swatting my arm on her way as she faffed with the dress.

"Let's get you in this beautiful dress." She smiled, ushering me into the bathroom.

After Magda helped me into the dress, she stepped back to look at me. She breathed in loudly, her eyes wide. "Sage, you look so much like your mother!" She cried, embracing me in her arms. "So beautiful." She sniffled, wiping her wrist against her nose.

I smiled with teary eyes in response. Everyone always told me how much I looked like my mother, other than my father of course, who has barely managed to speak a word to me since she died.

Patting Magda on the back, I dry my eyes with the back of my hands. "Your eyes look incredible, just like hers." Magda says, turning around to gather some tissues of the bathroom counter.

My eyes were one of the most similar aspects to my mother, we both had those intense green eyes as well as the black unruly curls, which no matter what you did to them, still had a mind of their own.

I turn back to Magda, taking her hand in mine after applying a little makeup to our faces to cover up the fact that we had both been crying our eyes out. "You look beautiful, Magda. Go blow all those middle-aged men's socks off when you walk down those stairs." I smiled as she rolled her eyes.

As we neared the top of the stairs of Castle Drago, I couldn't help but admire the ball room. Everything looked pristine and surprisingly lived in, as thousands upon thousands of people graced the floors. I couldn't help but wonder why my father had organised a ball, after all those lectures as to why I should stay inside the walls of Drago and yet here he was opening the gates like it was no big deal.

I wonder what he is planning.

It was Magda's constant waving in my face which brought me out of my inquisitive thoughts. I quickly rushed down to her, only to be yanked into her so she could whisper in my ear. "They're all looking at you." She whispered, giggling like a school girl.

Letting out a small laugh of disbelief, I turned my gaze to the dukes, duchesses, lords and ladies to find their intimidating eyes on me. I quickly brought my head down, shuffling next to Magda as she laughed quietly.

"Don't me nervous, they just want to meet you." Magda whispered in my ear as she walked down the stairs with elegance, with me trailing quietly behind her.

I was amazed at how skilled Magda was at small talk with all the upper class, she moved around the room with confidence as she introduced herself and then me to all the curious folk around us.

It was when we were conversing to the Duke and Duchess of Drago, when I noticed my fathers stare from across the room. Blinking in amazement, I was surprised that he was actually regarding me for the first time in 8 years. Excusing myself from talking to the Duke and Duchess, I attempted to walk over to my father when he swiftly turned his back to me and headed back up the grand staircase.

Feeling dejected and angered by my fathers blatant rudeness, I took a glass of whatever the waiter next to me was balancing upon his palm and gulped it, placing it back on the tray with a crooked smile, before I started up the stairs.
