My days in Mystic Falls had come to an end. I spent the entire summer meeting new people, making new friends, getting myself into plenty of trouble, and finding the love of my life. I had never expected the summer to be so amazing. I couldn't believe this had all happened because my father died.

I uncovered new secrets during my time in Mystic Falls. I spent lots of time to work on myself and start a new life, and luckily, I was able to do just that. I was extremely grateful for Damon, Stefan, Bonnie, Caroline, Elena, and Charlie. They all allowed me to be who I truly am and start a new life. They welcomed me into their group with no problem, which is a hard thing to find.

I said goodbye to Charlie and all of my friends. Damon helped me pack my things and he drove me to the airport. The entire way there, we talked about our favorite parts of the summer.

I had to say, my favorite part was having sex in the woods. It felt good to be free and rebellious.

We arrived at the airport, Damon helping me with my suitcases and bags. We set them down as he gave me a glum look. "Damon," I said to him. He wrapped his arms around me, hugging me tightly. "I know, Ellie. I don't want you to leave." He said to me. I sighed, fighting back my tears. "I'll be back." He pulled away, looking me in the eyes. "I love you," He said to me. "I love you more." I responded. He placed his lips firmly on mine. After I broke our kiss, I looked at him. "I hate goodbyes. I don't want to say goodbye." I said. Damon put his hand on my cheek.

"Then don't. We can leave it by saying, see you later, alligator." I laughed. He smiled at me. "Not for a while, crocodile." I responded. Damon kissed me once more before walking me to my terminal, helping me with my bags. I hugged him tightly and told him I loved him a number of times before he had to go.

I sat at the airport, waiting for them to call my flight. Once they had, I took my suitcases and bags, loading them up and sitting on the flight. I sat next to two people I didn't know, but I still had the window seat. I sat there, looking at the window and thinking of my summer before I drifted off to sleep.

The plane landed with a thump on the ground. I texted my mother to let her know I was home and that I needed a ride back to my house. I sat at the airport, waiting for her response. I waited what felt like hours, when in reality it was only an hour and a half. I decided she was asleep at home, so I called an uber to take me home.

The uber picked me up, driving me to my house. I arrived, getting my bags and ringing the doorbell.

I stood there, waiting for someone to open the door. When the door didn't open, I rang the doorbell again.

No response.

I put my bags down, lifting the door mat to find a spare key. I unlocked the door, pushing it open and stepping in with no problem. The house was a mess. "Mom?" I called out. No response. I dropped my bags, searching the house for my mother. There were clothes thrown all over the house, and it was extremely unorganized. I went back downstairs to find Obi, my cat, sitting next to a bag of cat food that had been ripped open and knocked over.

My mother.

She wasn't here.

My mom was gone.

I called Damon.

"Ellie, did you get home okay?"

"My mom isn't here."

"What?"

"She's not here, Damon. She's gone. She doesn't own the house, either. I walked in with no problem. I hadn't been invited in. I walked in fine. Damon, she's not here!" I shouted.

Damon tried to calm me down through the phone.

My mother was gone. She left. She sent me away, leaving with no regrets. Did she even care?

I had to go back to Mystic Falls.
