(Kageyama's POV)

"Are you disappointed that it's me? That I'm back?" Kageyama asked, watching Hinata's reactions. It had been ten years since they had seen each other, and they were both so different from when they were younger. Kageyama had changed, he wasn't the same boy he had been when they were younger. He could tell that Hinata wasn't the same boy either, though it seemed so far that not much had changed with the small red-head.

"What?! No, of course not!" Hinata yelped, reaching out to Kageyama again before he hesitated, dropping his hand back into his lap, careful to avoid the cat that was resting there. "I've never really been a fan of the whole soulmates situation. My dad didn't leave a very good impression of them to me when he left my mom, so I guess I was just never really open to the idea." Hinata stared into his cup intently. "I mean, the night you left, the cat found me, and I should've realized what that meant with what he looks like, but I never put two and two together.

"I thought about it, you and me, for a while, but I just figured that it would never happen. I'm not disappointed that it's you, I'm glad that you're back, I missed you, but I also know that we were soulmates when we were six, that doesn't mean that we still are now. Things have changed, I know we both have, and I want to get to know you again before we leap into this."

"I can agree with that," Kageyama said, petting the dog in his lap absentmindedly. This dog had been with him since he could remember. The night before they left, this dog had appeared on his way home from Shoyo's house. It had followed him home and when he had asked his parents, they had explained what he was.

He had spent the night crying into the small, happy animal, knowing that he was leaving Shoyo behind, that he would probably never see him again. The day they left, Tobio's mother had explained everything to Shoyo's mother, who had then told Hinata that Tobio was sick.

This animal had reminded him so much of Shoyo that he had started calling him that, and he was glad that things had turned out the way they had, but he wasn't going to push himself onto Hinata.

He had seen so many couples that had been forced by parents or friends, and he didn't want that, he wanted to be loved, to be cared for, even if he didn't deserve it. He wanted to love someone the way they deserved it, regardless of whether they were his soulmate or not.

He didn't want the strained, loveless, draining relationship that his parents had been forced into by their parents.

Even if that wasn't with Shoyo, that would be okay, as long as the red-head was happy.

"So, let's treat this like we're just becoming friends again!" Shoyo mused. "Let's play Would You Rather! I'll go first! Dogs or cats?"

"Really? Dogs or cats?" Kageyama asked, somewhat exasperated by the red-heads limited imagination, giving a pointed look to the animals in their laps. "Dogs."

"I was really expecting you to say cats," Hinata admitted.

Kageyama shrugged then said, "Vampires or zombies?"

"Vampires," Hinata said.

"Why?"

"Because vampires are hot."

"They're dead!" Kageyama argued.

"So are zombies!" Hinata pointed out.

Kageyama frowned, the smaller boy did have a point.

"Okay, um, mornings or nights?" the vampire-lover asked.

"Mornings."

"Why?"

"When did explaining become part of the rules?" Kageyama rebuked, hoping that his blush wasn't as bad as he thought it was.

He liked mornings because they reminded him of Shoyo, not only because of his name, but because of the way he had acted as a child.
