Was never the right time, whenever you called, went little by little by little until there was nothing at all...

Uma and Evie sat in the boat, waiting for their friends to come back. The pirate wrapped her arm around her shivering girlfriend. "Why does it have to be so cold?"Evie complained.
"I don't know,"Uma replied. Gently, she took off her jacket and placed it over Evie's shoulders. The princess smiled.
"Thank you,"she whispered, before looking over at the kids. They were curled up together, sleeping. "I hope the others are okay."
"I'm sure they are, Mal is strong and so is Ben and Jay. They'll get Carlos soon enough and we can be reunited again."
"Did you notice how Mal was acting weird earlier? She seemed mad at me, and I don't know why."
"She couldn't be mad at you, maybe it was something else. We can ask about it later,"Uma comforted.
"I love you,"the blue-haired princess said, smiling. Uma smiled in return.
"I love you too."

Meanwhile, Mal, Ben and Jay were trying to calm Carlos down. He wasn't breathing properly, a real panic attack. Jay rubbed small circles in his lovers back, Ben held an ice pack against Carlos' neck to sooth the burns while Mal tried to tell him Harry was gone now and he was safe. Eventually, Mal lost it, "Carlos, crying isn't gonna get us anywhere! If we don't leave here right now, Harry is going to come back and take you away and don't think we'll try and save you again, you'll be on your own!" Ben, Jay and Carlos all looked at her in shock. Carlos choked back the fresh tears and nodded.
"Okay let's go,"he whispered, wiping away his stray tears. Jay, Ben and Carlos stood up and walked over to the window that they'd used to get in and out of the ship. Ben opened it up and Mal climbed out first. Jay helped Carlos out, following him. Ben then left the ship and closed the window behind himself before jumping into the boat. He turned on the engine and began moving. Jay and Carlos sat together, Mal sitting with Evie and Uma. The kids were asleep on the floor, curled up in a blanket with a pillow. Carlos smiled. Evie noticed the burns on the puppy boy's neck.
"What are those? Are they from the collar? Are you okay? Do they hurt?"she gushed.
"Evie,"Mal laughed sarcastically, "Obviously they're burns, from the collar, he's not okay! He's crying! Of course they hurt!" Evie looked at Mal quickly, before turning back to Carlos.
"Do you want an ice pack?"she asked. Carlos nodded. The blue-haired princess opened a little door in the bottom of the boat and took out an ice pack. She handed it to Carlos and the puppy boy held it to his neck. He smiled slightly. Evie smiled back at Carlos before leaning her head on her girlfriend's shoulder. Uma, however, hadn't taken Mal's comments as well as Evie had.
"Who pissed in your cereal?"Uma asked, glaring at Mal.
"None of your business, Shrimpy,"Mal snapped back, turning around to face Ben at the front of the speed boat.
"Mal are you okay?"Evie asked, gently placing a hand on her best friend's shoulder.
"Don't touch me,"Mal said, shrugging Evie's hand off her shoulder. Evie slowly moved away and closer to Uma. What's wrong with Mal? she though, Is it my fault? Did I upset her? Carlos watched all this from the other side of the boat. He was snuggled up into Jay's side, holding the ice pack to his neck. The older male's arm was wrapped around his boyfriend, holding him close. Evie and Carlos exchanged a glance, before both of them turning to their lover. The blue princess rested her head on Uma's shoulder while the puppy boy pecked Jay on the lips. They rode in an awkward silence, courtesy of Mal, until finally they reached shore again. Carlos picked up Tess and Jay picked up Cameron, laying them down on some beds in the beach home.
"How's Dude?"Carlos asked, excited to see his first dog again. The others sat down around him, sharing a look. Carlos' smile faded.
"I'm so sorry Carlos..."Evie began, but she was cut off by Mal.
"He's dead, a car ran him over,"the dragon girl said, with no care of the look of heartbreak on her friend's face. Evie gently hit her best friend on the arm.
"I'm so sorry puppy,"she continued, looking back at Carlos. The son of Cruella had tears rolling down his cheeks, leaning into Jay. The older male was rubbing small circles on his boyfriend's back, trying to calm him.
"How long ago?"he choked out.
"Last week..."Evie replied. Carlos' heart was shattered. His first dog. The dog who'd actually helped him get over his fear, been there during the transition from the Isle to Auradon. Helped him stand up to his mother. Carlos closed his eyes and focused on his breathing. Jay gently reached out and took his lover's hand, giving it a tight squeeze. Mal seemed the only one in the room not feeling for the puppy boy.
"Honestly,"she sighed, "Everything dies at some point. Dogs, humans, plants, everything! We're all gonna die! I don't understand what's so sad about it!"
"Mal, stop-"Evie tried.
"No! I mean seriously Carlos, you cry about everything like, you cried on the ship, you're crying now, you'll never get anywhere in life with this attitude!"
"Mal shut up!"Evie yelled. Mal glared at her. The blue princess continued, "M, everybody cries sometimes. It's okay. I don't understand what's wrong with you! Why are you suddenly acting so mean? Because there's no way Carlos was done anything to you, he's just come back after being kidnapped for twelve years and you yell at him for crying because he lost his best friend!? That's not okay..." Evie's voice was cracking, tears spilling from her light brown eyes. She continued her lecture, "Mal, if I did something, I'm so sorry. I never meant to upset you, none of us did. But it's not okay to take it all out on Carlos. I understand you're upset about something, but we can't fix it if you don't tell us what's wrong." Mal looked down.
"Can we talk in private, E?"she asked. Evie nodded and took her best friends hand, walking outside.
"What's wrong, M?"
"I guess you could call it jealousy. You always give Uma so much attention, and I guess I've kinda felt a little... left out. Forgotten."
"I'm sorry M..." Evie pulled her friend into a tight embrace. "How about you and I have a girls night? A besties night? Just you a me, go shopping, watch a movie, go to dinner or something. Have some fun?" Mal nodded.
"I'd like that." Slowly, the two girls headed back inside. After speaking with Evie, Mal realised the bitchy things she'd said and done, especially to Carlos. "Hey Carlos..."she began. The puppy boy turned to face her, keeping a tight grip on Jay's hand. His eyes were red from crying, and a few stray tears still escaped. "Can I talk to you? In private, please?" Mal glances at Evie, who nodded, before turning back to Carlos.
"Okay..."he replied. His voice was quiet and broken, causing an ache in Mal's heart. This was her fault. The two went outside.
"I'm really sorry for what I said... I didn't mean it..."Mal began, trying to find Carlos' eyes. He kept his head down, looking at his feet, not wanting to make eye contact.
"It's okay, I forgive you..."the young male replied.
"No, you don't forgive me. You aren't looking at me. I really am sorry Carlos. I've been a really shit friend, I said things I really shouldn't have said. I wish I could reverse time and stop past me from saying those things. And to be honest, I think you out of us all have the most promising future. You're smart, funny, talented and probably the best dad to those kids ever. I'm really really sorry." Mal watched Carlos closely. Slowly, the male looked up, making eye contact with Mal. He was smiling.
"Thanks Mal. I forgive you, I promise." Mal smiled.
"I'm also, really sorry about Dude... really I am..."
"It isn't your fault. You weren't driving the car."
"Actually... I was... I'm so sorry, I didn't see him in the road. I'm so so sorry." Heartbreak flashed across Carlos' face again, but he covered it up with a fake smile.
"It's fine, trust me. Like you said, we all die eventually, so one day I'll see him again. Whether that be in a year or a decade." Carlos covered up his anger and betrayal with a smile. It's not her fault... he told himself, She didn't mean to, we all make mistakes, whether they be huge or tiny... The two smiled at each other, before heading back inside to their awaiting significant others.

Our every moment, I start to replay... but all I can think about is seeing that look on your face...

Yay! Update! Also, I might try and write some smut in the next chapter so... please bare with me for that I'm not very good at it 😂. This'll be my first time, but I really want to. For anyone who wants to know, the song lyrics at the beginning and end of each chapter, yes they are lyrics, are from Before you go by Lewis Capaldi. I have this obsession where Jay sings it to Carlos, so maybe he'll do that in one of the upcoming chapters. Also, btw, my editor has been busy so she can't check my work this time ☹️.
