Y/N's POV
Jorge angrily flipped the defensive guard down that is in the spot of his window. Thomas, Newt, and I all climbed through from the bed of the truck to the back seat of. "I'm impressed. You nearly lasted a full day." Jorge says glancing back at us through his rear view mirror a couple times. Thomas sits on the right side of me, Newt to the left of me, and I'm squished in the middle. Brenda, in the passenger seat turns around glaring at us. "We didn't want to bring you into this." Thomas explains to the young woman giving the four of us a death glare. Four including Frypan who decided to stay in the truck bed. Brenda continues to stare at us until Fry popped his head in the conversation. "What he means to say is thank you for saving us." Fry utters, smiling and then takes his head out from between mine and Thomas'. "Youre welcome." Brenda slightly, turning to face forward in her seat. "Don't get your hopes up. That checkpoint back there was Wicked's last line of defensive. If that was overrun, odds are the city is too." Jorge exclaims being the negative but reasonable one. What if this is just a dead end? What if Vince was right? We can't just wander to a random point on the map and expect to find Minho. "Unless they found another way to keep the cranks out." Newt suggests looking out his window. Everyone looks to the left to a sight no one ever imagined. Jorge immediately slammed on the breaks and the truck came to a stop. Brenda and Jorge use the doors to get out. Thomas, Newt, and I climb out the windows. We're left silently starring at the city. A city with tall sky scrapers bordered by a large wall. "Funny. Spent three years trapped behind walls trynna break out, and now we wanna break back in." Newt sarcastically mentions as we all look over the futuristic looking city. "That's hilarious." Fry replies jokingly. "Jorge, how do we get in?" Thomas questions as I continue to stare at the city, the sun shining on the tall buildings. "Don't look at me Hermano. Those walls are new. Seems to be Wicked's answer for everything." Jorge says taking off his gloves. "Well we're not gunna figure it out from up here. Let's go!" Brenda exclaims walking to the vehicle. Everyone gets in except for Newt, Thomas, and I. Newt and I walk over to Thomas as he stares at the city. "What do you think is in there?" Newt questions Thomas. "I guess we'll find out." Thomas says keeping his attention on the view of the city. It went silent for second as the three of us accept what we're about to do. "You know... she's going to be there too." Newt adds. Thomas breaks his contact with the city to look over to us. He nods as he gets in the truck. "Come on love." Newt says leading me to the truck.Teresa's POV
I walk in the direction of Dr. Ava Paige, my mother, as she speaks with other individuals. My navy blue heels click click every time I step. Ava sees me and dismisses the people she was talking to. Once I arrive next to her, she places her hand on my lower back. "Are you ready?" Dr. Paige questions as she walks next to me, her hand still on my back. I look over to her knowing she can see the answer to that question on my face. "You'll be fine." She reassures as we make our way to the meeting.
"People are beginning to loose faith Doctor. When you sealed off the wall, you ashured us that it would only be... a temporary percausion. Why have you denied all entry?" A man with dark skin and grey hair asks. The business man wears a professional suit and tie. I stand in the back of the room as Ava stands in front of the three person committee. "Because things are changing. And not for the better. Infection rates are up 300%. Fortunately, we may be on the verge of a breakthrough." Ava replies pulling up a digital screen showing stats and data, along with a picture of Minho. I look down, as I can't stand to look at him. Even if it's just a picture. All I see is shame in his eyes. "This is subject A7. He spent over 3 years in the maze trials. The antibodies produced in the response, have been the strongest we've ever seen. We're extracting a new serum as we speak. And with your support, we'd like to begin human trials." Ava informs walking closer to the 3 people. The dark skinned man starts to get comfortable in his chair. "Thank you doctor, that's very impressive. But we have been down this road before. Frankly, we are all beginning to wonder if-." The short grey haired woman says when the dark skinned man finishes her statement, "-if our resources could be better spent elsewhere." The room got quite. "Meaning?" Dr. Paige questions. "Safe zones. Protected areas, like the one we're in. We could save as many people as possible." The grey haired woman suggests. "How many?" I blurted out as the committee turns around to me. I start to walk to the front of the room. "A thousand? Two thousand? And that's assuming your protected areas stay protected. Which we know they won't." I argue standing at the front. Dr. Paige sits down in her chair to let me take over the talking. "The infected already outnumber the healthy 3 to 1. All you would be doing is delaying the inevitable." I add. No one says anything. The four people including my mother stare at me, suggesting I continue. "Have any of you ever lost someone to the virus?" I question expecting someone is able to answer. "A niece... Anna." The lady with the grey hair answered. "I'm sorry we weren't able to help her... but imagine, if we were able to live with the virus. To survive it. Imagine being able to tell Anna that you could give her the chance to live a normal life. We've never been this close to a cure, and we've sacrificed a lot to get this far... please... don't let those sacrifices be for nothing." I finish. The room is filled with another wave of silence. The only visible sound is the blow of the AC unit. The dark skinned man stands up and comes up to me. He puts his hand out, shaking for a deal.
I stand in Ava's office, starring out the window. Out to the outside of the walls. I hear the sound of Dr. Paige's heels clicking on the glass floor. "Nicely done. They can be a pretty tough crowd. You handled them perfectly" Ava says starring out the window as I am. "Delaying the inevitable... Thomas and Y/N use to say the same about us." She adds turning her head to me. "Do you still think about them? I can help you with that. Those memories... there's no point in holding onto those. It's a simple procedure." Ava finishes. "There is a reason." I start turning to look at her, "And I wanna remember... If we find a cure, that's the only way all this was worth it." I state turning back to look at the walls. "I hope you're right." Ava exclaims as the room fills with silence.
