______

if he was being honest, lawliet didn't know how he felt at the moment. he was rather enthralled by the specimen known as kimura (y/n). who was she? who were her parents? how did she come to be? why did she change her identity? why did she choose to be a detective officer? what made her stay up at night? did she like sweets? if so, which one was her favorite? was she a night owl or a morning bird?

of course, he'd be able to find the answers to some of his questions with a simple background search (one that would be difficult to anyone but him), but that's the thing, he didn't want to. he wanted to know the answers to his infinite questions from her, not from some news article regarding her tragic "death". he wanted to know who she was by actually getting to know her.

had he ever felt this way before? no, no he had not. and to be quite honest, he was afraid. as much as he hated to admit it to himself, he was terrified of the mere thought of getting close to someone, emotions were much too unpredictable. despite his perceived brazenness, he was plagued with self-doubt just like any other overthinker. someone like him could never even think of getting emotionally invested in anyone, much less if they were simply meant to be an asset to him.

he was growing rather tired of those thoughts invading his head. he couldn't think of (y/n), he had more important things to think of, as unfortunate as it may be. he had to think about the kira case and his soon to be meeting with the very girl that invaded his mind.

he wondered how she managed to come to exactly the same conclusion he did. it was mind boggling to lawliet that someone could even come close to his level of intellect. of course, this excluded the brilliant children from wammy's house, the very children that would one day replace him.

wammy's house, he thought. what if she was from wammy's house?
would watari even tell him? would he even know?

he sipped his, by now, lukewarm tea with a sigh. lawliet had been invaded with some rather jading thoughts. he had lots to worry about, specially the soon arrival of (y/n) and a serial killer that didn't even need to be present to kill.
needless to say, L had quite a lot on his plate.

why did he even invite her?

not even L himself could answer that question, he hadn't a clue as to why he was so eager to have her close to him. perhaps it was the rare thought of having someone like him by his side, misunderstood, lonesome, intellectually brilliant. as much as he hated to admit, he was fascinated by the girl he had found a couple of days ago. he didn't even know what she looked like at the moment, he had only seen pictures of her when she was a measly pre-teen.
