So in first chapter, during French scene, the person who's narrating the scene is Alfie not Emery, though he was the one who answered a question :)

(First scene is a little passage from the book.)

Maurice lounged in the parlour, mid afternoon. Harry normally called it the living room, though Maurice suspected it was due to his fond memories with his brother (despite their heavy age gap). On the other hand, Martin tended to call it the"assembly" room, or the "great classroom". It was the room most visited and most popular (the place visited more often than the others, so the library was referred to as "the smallest classroom").

The boy in question was bored, trying very hard to keep his face supported by his thin, paling hands. He watched as Alfie crunched a hard candy in his mouth, sucking it as if it were the sweetest thing in the world. He downed it with one gulp, sighing. Edward and Emery were watching him with expressionless faces, unsure of what to comment as they stared at Alfie getting another. Maurice grimaced, it was just a piece of old candy, dust and all, who cared?

Emery moved his head to the side, finally voicing what Alfie has been desperate to hear. "All right, where'd you get them from?"

Alfie hid a smirk evident to Maurice. "From an admirer." He picked the one he was currently snacking upon out of his mouth, examining its rich edges. "And there's more where that came from." He pulled a bag out of his pant's pocket. He just loved to keep things his close to his manhood, Maurice noticed.

More candies lay wait in the depths of his bag, each a different and dirtier than the next. "Aren't they just lavish?"

You could hear what he wanted: beg. Beg for it.

The youngest boy was relieved to see no one took the bait. Alfie wasn't the bad type, though he was arrogant from the sheer knowledge that he was the handsomest—unless you care for Edward's type. So to save embarrassment, Maurice asked for a candy. He received the dirtiest one.

"Who's the famous admirer of yours?" Edward asked. "I can't imagine anyone around here."

"It's a Georgia rich girl I met on the road," Alfie recited. That gained a laugh from Edward.

"I only kissed her..." Alfie twiddled a lock of his gorgeous hair around his finger. "Once or twice. She was only fourteen, cute thing, name of Angie Wilkins."

"From the looks of it, she's been carrying that bag of candy since she was born!" They snickered.

"Maybe so. She said she'd give it to the first cute boy she met. That was me." He stuck another one into his mouth, licking. "I was the first boy she'd ever kissed."

"Maybe I'll tell Harry 'bout it," Edward said. "Or maybe Sir Martin when he comes homes. Alfie only snorted.

"Go ahead. I'll just tell her it was my patriotic duty. And it was, right Emery?" (His father being a general).

Edward sniffed, the sensitive jerk. "I don't think you have any business to talk of patriotism when you haven't a single family member servicing our country."

Maurice's ears pricked. The truth wasn't that simple and Edward knew it. He had a mother in Fredericksburg, though he'd no clue of their accuracy (they were called fancy girls by the army).

"Of course he has a family. A mother whom I'm sure is a charming person," Emery began, "but also a high ranked officer for a father."

Emery merely made up stories to appease Edward's suspicions, like a letter containing news of his father's capture. However, we all knew how false they were as Alfie was the only boy who never received any mail.
