akaashi liked to believe he was a rational person.
when put under strenuous conditions he was usually the calm and collected person to lead the group to safety. he wasn't scared of much and even the things he was scared of were reasonable (death, small spaces, snakes).
akaashi keiji was a rational, calm and collected person.
as he started breakfast in the morning, he carefully cut all the ingredients in an organized fashion as the low mumble of the radio played in the background.
"good morning." a familiar voice mumbled as akaashi felt a warm pair of arms wrap around his waist and chin rest on his shoulder.
"good morning bokuto." the male smiled leaning against his chest.
"what are you doing?"
"i'm making breakfast." akaashi stated. he felt bokuto smile against his neck leaving small and soft kisses. "you didn't have to." he mumbled.
"i know. but i wanted to." the raven haired male smiled placing his hands on top of bokuto's. a comfortable silence surrounded them as the only sound in the room was the quiet radio.
"-a huge storm will passing through the area towards the afternoon and will most likely-"
bokuto felt akaashi stiffen in his arms. a frown formed on his face as he glanced at him. "kaashi what's wrong?"
"i-i um..i have to go."
"go? go where?"
"to get some groceries! we have to stock up on food!" he said quickly, rubbing his chest anxiously.
"stock up on-"
akaashi quickly moved from the taller males grip and walked quickly to the front door.
"okay just give me a minute to get dressed so i can come with you."
"no! i uh i mean no you don't have to i got it..." he said putting his shoes on. "i'll be back in an hour don't worry!" he walked out of the apartment and shut the door behind him before bokuto could protest.
"well that's wasn't weird at all..." bokuto mumbled as he looked at the food akaashi had left behind. he sighed knowing what he would spend the rest of the morning doing as he started to clean up.
——
bokuto hummed to the song blasting in the background as he started doodling in his notebook. he was supposed to be studying but of course, his mind drifted and he started to wonder if he could make a living as an artist. next thing he knew his paper was filled with doodles of akaashi. after some careful consideration bokuto has decided his art was too bad to be an artist but good thing he was good at volleyball. oh speaking of volleyball-
a loud bang rang through the house startling the male as he looked around his room. getting up he peeked his head out into the hallway. "hello?"
other than the heavy ran hitting the windows, the house was silent. a loud crash of thunder filled the house and suddenly bokuto heard shuffling. reaching for the bat he always kept by his door (for emergencies he told akaashi when the male asked about it when they first moved in), he moved into the hallway. "if anyone's in here i have a gun-well not a gun but i have a bat and i'm not afraid to use it!" he yelled making his way through the house.
his brow furrowed as he heard more shuffling towards the front door. ah they were trying to get away! bokuto quickly moved closer to the door as the shuffling grew louder. wait no, that's not shuffling it sounds more like...
"b-bokuto-s-san..."
whimpering? what's going on? as he turned corner his eyes widened. akaashi was sitting by the front door, knees to chest as his hands were in his hair, tears streaming down his face. he sat there whimpering and holding back choked sobs.
"b-bokuto-san.." he whimpered pulling his knees closer to his chest.
that's my name.
he's calling me.
bokuto dropped the bat, running over to akaashi's side. as he crouched down to level their eyes he put his hand on the other males arm. "hey it's me i'm here." he said softly.
akaashi jumped and looked over to him. "bokuto-san?"
"yeah that's me. i'm here kaashi. what's wrong?" he asked moving closer.
"it's..its the the-" he said in between sobs and sniffles.
"just breathe akaashi."
the male nodded and took in a deep shuddering breath before letting it out. he seemed a little calmer now. as he opened his mouth the speak a loud crash of thunder filled the room causing the male to wrap is arms around bokuto's neck, hugging him close.
"a-akaashi?" bokuto asked surprised leaning back, only causing the male to tighten his grip and pull him closer.
oh i get it.
he's scared.
bokuto wrapped his arms around akaashi's waist, moving him into his lap. akaashi instantly wrapped his legs around his waist and buried his face in bokuto's shoulder, muffling his sobs. the male lifted them both up and slowly made his way to his bedroom.
——
i'm not crazy.
i swear i'm not crazy.
i'm sane.
i'm calm and rational.
akaashi tightened his grip on bokuto as they made their way down the hall. "bokuto-san..." he said leaning back to look at the other male.
"hmm?" he hummed.
"i-i know i'm being stupid...i-i...i just-"
"don't worry about it kaashi." bokuto said calmly, wiping the new tears that fell down akaashi's cheeks.
i'm sane i swear.
as bokuto led them both into his room he chuckled softly at the song that was playing. carefully sitting on his bed, he grabbed the comforter and lifted it over the both of their heads.
akaashi looked at him and sniffled. "i'm sorry-"
"you know kaashi this song brings back memories." bokuto interrupted.
akaashi looked at him confused. "it does?"
he nodded. "wanna hear the story?"
"sure..."
bokuto grinned and started retelling a tale of how him and kuroo broke the law to this song. akaashi wasn't really paying attention as his mind was everywhere at the moment.
"...and that's when we had this genius idea to..." bokuto continued calmly rubbing circles into akaashi's back.
akaashi buried his face in the males neck.
i'm sane i swear.
i'm sane.
i'm safe.
akaashi's eyes flew open as the thought crossed his mind. i'm safe. sitting here in bokuto's arms he knew the male wouldn't let anything happen to him. he was fine, better than fine he was happy. smiling softly against his neck he closed his eyes again.
"...the owner was toooootally mad but..."
feeling all his energy leave his body, akaashi allowed himself fall asleep against bokuto.
"and yeah that's basically it." he smiled at the memory. he glanced over at akaashi who was sleeping in his arms. bokuto knew akaashi had fallen asleep towards the beginning of the story but decided to continue telling it anyway in case he woke up again. he carefully removed the blanket from their heads and looked out the window. the storm had passed and just left a light rain.
scooting off the bed, bokuto laid akaashi down and covered him with his blanket. smiled softly as the male immediately cuddled into the blanket.
he grabbed a spare blanket and walked into the living room, plopping on the couch he quickly fell asleep to the quiet rain tapping against the window.
