Underneath The Wave- Lucas Bennet (The Impossible)

It was a usual morning, the day after christmas. The 26th of June, 2004. And here Y/N was soaking up the moring sun by the pool. She was waiting for Lucas to come down with his family. And then here he was, running towards her. A large goofy grin on his face as he carried two cups of juice. His two little brothers following behind him kicking a new red ball that they played with on the beach just yesterday. Maria took the sunbed next to her and started reading her book. A glass of wine beside her. So Lucas found himself playing in the pool with Henry and his brothers.

"So you and Lucas?" Maria asked as Y/N watched her best friend play in the cool water, basking in the warm Thailand air. Like everyone else she was wearing her swimsuit, it was a pearl in colour that complimented her perfectly and even had on a matching pair of flats to go with it.

"What do you mean?" Y/N laughed as she took a sip of her drink. Before Maria's page in her book drifted towards the glass wall, Maria chasing after it. Before the ball came from the pool, so Y/N went to get it for her favourite boy. Smiling as he made his way toward her too.

But then halfway she stopped, Lucas already stood by the ball and something didn't feel right.

"Lucas?" She muttered as she watched the juice shake in her hand.

"Y/N, you okay?" He asked with his British accent laced with worry. His brown eyes stating at her shaking frame. But it was too late.

The water surged towards them, the rumble of the shockwaves still vibrating through the floor. The ball rolling away from Lucas. The trees falling at the colossal wave, Maria stood by a glass wall her book page on there. Thomas and Simon stopped playing with their dad in the pool.

Y/N stood in the open space between Maria and Lucas, the sunbed next to her and her drink in her hand. It was only a orange juice with ice but now it slammed against the floor. The liquid gushing up her leg as the wave was now visible. Lifting up over the hotel. Her eyes finding Lucas's, she wasn't meant to be here. She should have been at home with her family but the Bennett's invited her seeing as she was his best friend.

"Y/N!" He screamed as the wave proceeded to gain toward them, her name the last thing on his lips as he grabbed her. Pulling her under into the water of the pool, the red ball beside them as his parents screamed, other peoples screams reaching her ears. The last thing she spotted was the scared eyes of Lucas before it became black. His arms wrapped around her waist to keep her safe from the water gushing above them.

And then she was alone, being pulled in all directions. Limbs burning and pain spreading. Her head under the water, taking massive gulps of the dirty water. Her body was pulled and dragged in all directions like a rag doll. Something was caught in her waist, blood oozing from it and she grabbed a tree. Her nails digging into the bark of the tree as the water continued to pull her. Her screams hoarse and her chest hurt, an unbearable pressure on her. It was horrible. She had never seen something so painful. Large waves sweeped the ground, wipping everthing in its path. Screams filled her sense, everywhere, she looked was death.

"LUCAS!" she screamed as the pain increased. Her eyes caught a figure moving in the water, moving around trying to save themselves. It turned towards her, it was Lucas. He was rapidly swimming as the waved tried to take him under.

"Y/N!" He screamed back as he resurfaced but then she slipped, her hand let go of the tree. Fell back to the water below her, her breath came on her lips as she was plunged under the waves once more.

Unlike Lucas, Simon and Thomas, Y/N was alone. Nobody to look after her. She was completely alone. She searched wide and far but could not find her best friend's family. And now she was all alone on a hospital bed sick and dying. The wound on her abdomen was infected and an awful black colour. Until she heard him, she was shaking cold when his voice sounded through the hall.

"Lucas?" She questioned but he was already turning around the corner out of sight. And that's all it took before she began ripping the wires out of her skin and tried to stand. However it was no good, he was already gone. But she regained composure and began to stumble in his direction. He was looking everywhere like he was searching for someone and she hope it was for her.

"Lucas." She tried to call him but her lungs still burned, he ran up the stairs his feet moving rapidly. And Y/N caught Henry running down the stairs on the opposite side. So she tried to get to him but it was no use. She was alone again so she found herself walking out of the hospital as a ban pulled up. She watched two kids jump from the van, two kids she recognised.

"Simon, Thomas." She shouted before the two kids noticed her, both of them running as fast as they could towards her. She ket the two kids crash into her as they began crying. Sobbing telling her how they missed everyone before an old lady started making her way towards them.

"Hello honey but I'm taking them to the mountains. The mountains safe." Is all Y/N got from the old ladys voice and the kids face Y/N one last bone crushing hug before following the lady.

"We will come back for you Y/N." Thomas told her and she ruffled his hair, a smile lifting onto his face.

"I'll see you soon little one, look after him for me." She said kissing his cheek and he ran off towards the bus. The small boys waved at her as she began making her way to the tents, unknowingly that Lucas would soon be stood in the same place she was just seconds ago.

She tried to make her way through the crowd as someone was pulled onto a van, she tried calling out as she could face sworn it was Maria but she was to late. Just like that the gate locked and was moving rapidly, only then did she get to the middle of the road. They were all there, together as they should be. Lucas, Thomas, Simon, Henry and a sick Maria. The Bennett's were together and going home, without her. And she dropped to her knees in pain groaning as she grabbed her abdomen.

The plane flew out off sight and only then did the girl cry, she broke down on the middle of a dirt road next to a hospital. Her sobs shaking through her body.

And Lucas sat on the plane crying, wishing he could have saved his best friend. He remember his last look at her, her body falling from a tree into the water. Screaming for him. But he couldn't save her, and little did he know she was alive.

"Lucas?" Henry asked taking a seat next to his oldest child, the sad look in his eye. The boy looked up at his dad and broke down. He weeped for the girl he couldn't save, all those lives took by the waves.

"She's gone, I lost her. I couldn't save her." He cried into his dad's chest as he rubbed his sons back lovingly. Guilt filled Thomas instantly, Y/N, how could have he forgotten to tell his brother Y/N was at the hospital.

"Lucas?" Thomas asked as he pulled away from his dad's chest and looked at one of his younger brothers. Wiping away the tears do he didn't look weak infront of them.

"Y/N. She was there, in the hospital." Thomas muttered guilty and then Lucas snapped. He screamed in pain, he left Y/N all alone over there. And he couldn't just go back for her.

The last image of her replayed on his nightmares every night, her scream, her shaking form. The look on her face before they were took under the waves.
