The next morning I got out of bed, I didn't not however wake up because I couldn't not fall back asleep last night after our conversation
It's now 5am my usual wake up call being as I open shop at 6:30.
I do a light makeup and brush out my hair having still some curls in it from yesterday I decided that would do for today
I got dressed in long bell sleeved loose fitting floral blouse with some light wash skinny jeans and a pair of white converse high tops that I always wear to work. I exit my room and go downstairs to call a cab when I see Harry standing against the counter clad in beige slacks and a black loose button up tucked in on one side and he was seemingly waiting on me
"Good morning love"
I rolled my eyes but wished him a good morning as well
"Well I'd love to chat but I have got to call a cab and get to the shop"
"Nonsense that's why I am here, I am ready when you are"
He grabbed his keys off the counter and was out the door before I could protestWhen we arrived at the shop Harry slipped onto a barstool and took out his phone while I began starting the shop for the day. Once I finished I flipped on the open sign and unlocked the door and stood behind the counter awaiting my first customer. I leaned against the back counter and crossed my arms already tired and blew the hair from my face in a huf
Harry put his phone down and placed his arm on the counter propping his head in his hand and smiling at me
"So what made you want to open a cafe" Harry mused with a smile on his face
"Um well I don't particularly love coffee but I wanted a place people could come and feel safe and feel like home I wanted to be a staple here you know like the bakery"
"You never did like being alone"
"That's not what I meant"
"Okay love if that's what you say"
I rolled my eyes and went to the back to take the muffins out of the oven and put them in the display case
I don't usually have many good items just a few scones and breakfast biscuits and a different muffin flavor every few day, I know I am no w. Mandeville bakery so I'll leave the real baking to them
I poured Harry a black coffee that I mixed in a spoonful of butter and handed it to him
He looked at me like I'd grown an extra head clearly taken aback
"You remember how I like my coffee"
I didn't realize it was a big deal but I suppose it had been years since I made him coffee and we sat like this
He slowly took a sip of his coffee and sighed contently leaning his head forward as if taking in the smell while a loose piece of hair fell in front of his eyes; I don't know what took over me but I reached forward slowly and moved the hair out of his face
We both froze
He looked up to me and our eyes locked and I suddenly couldn't remember how to breath
No boy has ever made me feel the way Harry does
I never got goosebumps with anyone else but at this moment I was grateful I had long sleeves on because the small dots forming all up my arm would have been a dead give away that Harry does still in fact have a hold over me.
We held eye contact for a few seconds to long for my resolve yet neither of us made any move to break the connection.
I could see his eyes shifting back and forth ever so slightly as if trying to gauge my emotions but I wasn't about to let go so easily.
Finally the shop door opened and the bells broke us out of our daze.
My head shot up to the door and in strolled Anne wearing a white sundress with sandals and a blue cardigan
She stopped momentarily when she spotted Harry but quickly got over her surprise and sat on the stool next to him kissing his head as she sat
"Well what a lovely surprise to see you here" Anne said almost smuggly as she patted Harry on the arm
"Dear I was going to come over to yours later but I guess this saves me the trip"
She turned to me with a big smile
"Good morning love, it's the second week of the month so I hope you have those wonderful banana nut muffins and I'll take my regular tea please dear"
Harry's face looked as if she'd just ordered a margarita
Once he stopped opening and closing his mouth his eyes shot to his mother
"Do you come here often?"
"Of course baby, I come here a few times a week it's just so charming and"
She raised her tea cup to me in an approving manner
"The company is amazing, I love visiting with Faith, one of my dearest friends I'd say"
That Anne knows just what she's doing
"Hold on mum you come here a few times a week and when I ask you how Faith is doing you tell me you don't know you don't keep track of her, yet now you tell me you're here all the time"
I had to but in now
"It's my fault I asked her to not tell you she was visiting me, I figured it would be easier"
To be completely honest Anne always was another mother to me and in the past few years she's been a true friend, and she's my only lifeline to how Harry's actually been doing other then what I've seen online
Just wait until he finds out I still hangout with Gemma.
He looked truly hurt and I couldn't blame him, to find out your mother wasn't telling you the truth for who knows how long.
"Well" Anne said in an attempt to change the topic "this Saturday as you both know is Gemma's birthday and I'd love to go out to dinner and I hope that you both can make it"
Anne knows I can't say no to her even though she knows I want to
I sighed and smiled at her "you know I'll be there"
Harry, who was still trying to read the room didn't miss on this opportunity "I'll be there to, it's a date"
"No" I quickly quipped "it's Gemmas birthday dinner not a date"
"Okay so let me get this right it's my sisters birthday dinner that you are joining us at" he smiled brightly and down the rest of his coffee and placing the empty cup in front of me triumphantly "that love sounds like a date to me"
Anne smiled so brilliantly at the two of us as if her plan was falling into place
"Fabulous! I can't wait!"
