"You don't remember anything?" Kenneth said looking at her with disbelief. She looked a little afronted.
"I think I'm better off not remembering how my family died and I am the only one who survived." Her voice biroke.
Kenneth gave a laugh, a humorless, cold laugh.
"You really are a good actor, I'll give you that."
Willow's eyebrows knitted together.
"Are you in your right mind." She said through gritted teeth. "I won't stand this. Joseph asked you to bring me here. I've been patient enough, please ask him to come."
Kenneth banged the side table with his hand, making the coffee sitting on top of it to tremble and spill.
"Joseph didn't call you here. We saved your life. Consider yourself very lucky. If we hadn't come, you would've died, and Joseph wouldn't have even known." His voice cut through her solid composure. The pain in her eyes was evident. Ruth, her presence long forgotten, now came forward. She put a hand on Kenneth shoulder, but his hard glare was fixed on Willow. But after a few seconds, he went out banging the door on his way.
Ruth looked completely disturbed whole Willow's eyes were still fixed on the seat which Kenneth.
Ruth stood looking at the door for a while then sat on the seat.
Willow looked away.
"Why am I here?" She had regained her previous composure.
"Because if we left you there, you would've died." She said.
"How did you find me?" She altered her question.
Ruth took some time replying.
"We. ........ we came to the Jude manor for...." Her voice trailed away.
"For?"
Ruth face was tilted on one side, her eyebrows knitted. Thinking wildly.
"Look ..... you've just woken up. Don't burden yourself. Well talk later. Just rest for now. If you need anything please feel free to ask."
Willow gave a slight nod and Ruth departed.
The house was in vague darkness as none of the lights were on. She came on her room and shut the door behind her. Walking slowly to her window seat, deep in thought.
She gathered her legs closer to her body. Frowning to herself she placed her head on the window sill. The conversation that she heard had disturbed her. But why? Even she didn't know. Ruth closed her eyes and a memory flashed in her mind,
Her parents laying in front of her in their own pool of blood, as a last cry escapes her mother's lips.....
She opened her eyes slowly and buried her face in her lap. Trying to escape her own mind, her own memories. Slowly drifting to sleep.
She woke up in an awkward position, her body aching. Getting up she stretched herself and checked the time. It was sunset. Ruth got out of her room and went to check on Willow. She was sitting on the attached Terrence to her bedroom. She want noiselessly to her and sat on one of the chairs. For a while, they sat silently looking at the sunset.
"It's beautiful." Willow said quietly.
"Is it?" Ruth tilted her head to one side. Willow looked at her ,a little inquiringly.
"You don't like it?"
She shook her head. "I'm not saying it's not beautiful...... it's just...... I don't really like what follows"
"Night?"
"Darkness" Ruth corrected her. Willow to herself.
"The moon's full tonight. It'll be bright."
Ruth smiled but didn't continue.
"Tea?"
"I'd love some."
Ruth got up and went outside. As she was entering the kitchen, her phone rang.
"Hello" she said picking up.
"How are you doing?" Kenneth's voice sounded grave over the phone. In response, her voice was also crisp as she replied.
"Good." Their was silence on the other side.
"Are you sure you're ok?" This time his voice sounded anxious.
"Your the one who doesn't sound okay."
He gave a sigh and cut the call.
