All was not well in ShadowClan. Although things seemed it, ShadowClan was short of Clanmates and Twolegs had ravaged their territories, scaring most prey away, and loyalties were being threatened. A gray she-cat made her way onto the territory, searching for someone. "Thinfur? Thinfur? Please, Thinfur, I know you're there!"
"Rabbitear," a voice breathed. A short black cat stepped out of the shadows, masked in the scent of leaves. "You came."
"Of course, my love," the she-cat replied, purring warmly. They touched noses affectionately. "But it will get harder." Her dark grey face seemed to darken.
"What do you mean?"
"My leader almost caught me. What will happen when somebody does?"
"I will leave ShadowClan and join you," Thinfur declared. "That is how far my love for you goes." A cricket chirped in the background, the half moon rising.
"Thinfur. I'm expecting kits. Your kits." Rabbitear revealed. Please, StarClan, don't punish us. We love each other so, so much. We didn't mean for this to happen. It just did.
"That's wonderful!" Thinfur exclaimed. "Why so worried?" Rabbitear hesitated, fixing her gaze on her love's meaningful yellow eyes.
"What will happen to them?" she asked. "They'll be half-clan, Thinfur. What if we've ruined their lives forever?"
"Nonsense." Thinfur twined his tail with hers, breathing softly. "This will be their future. I can already sense that they'll be important."
"But what does that matter, if they can only have one of their kin?"
"They?" Thinfur questioned. His eyes darted to a leaf, his pelt bristling. "Someone's coming. We have to be quick."
"I can feel them. There's two, two perfect kits. But I'm scared. What will become of them?"
"So I'll join your Clan," Thinfur looked away slightly.
"But you don't want to. Your kin is there."
"My kin is dying," Thinfur mewed. "They are all dying. All of ShadowClan. Slowly, but they're dying. If these kits are born elsewhere, they might be happy, but not in ShadowClan." They both swiveled their heads towards the pines, hearing a branch snap. "Come here in one sunset," Thinfur pleaded. "Please." Rabbitear nodded and darted off like the wind.
...
Thinfur glanced around as he silently padded through the camp, towards a marsh in their territory. He stifled a cough, smelling monsters, and dashed into the dark woods. He blinked as he arrived. "Rabbitear?" Silence greeted him, and he froze. Rabbitear was always earlier than him. "Rabbitear, please, come," he mewed. Suddenly, a flash of grey fur bashed into his side and he stumbled, unsheathing his claws. His ears perked up as his eyes locked with a blue gaze.
"You should've seen your face," Rabbitear snorted. "So we know what we're doing?"
"I can't," Thinfur whispered. "I can't leave you. It will break my heart." Rabbitear nuzzled him and whispered, "We have to do this. It's our only choice."
"I can't!," Thinfur yowled, forgetting to be quiet. "I can't live without you, Rabbitear! I can't help feeling like this, but you're part of me!"
"Shh," Rabbitear mewed. "They'll hear. I know this is hard." He sighed and let his spiked fur lie flat. But how will I survive without you? he thought to himself. She licked his forehead and he let his tail brush her side lovingly.
"If only I could go with you," he murmured, staring into her eyes. "Then all would be fine."
"They need kin," his loved one murmured. "And I can't stay in WindClan. I need to go, or else I could ruin lives."
"But it's not your fault. If you stay, they'll hate you, and you would surely die. Nobody would forgive you for falling in love with me, especially not WindClan." He paused, thinking carefully about his next words, and added, "I only killed a WindClan cat because Fernstar is on her last life. The others think she can still die, but she can't. It was her or him, and ShadowClan is already falling apart."
"Don't worry," Rabbitear mewed. "I swear on Starclan that I will always love you, Thinfur. I swear it. Nothing will ever break our bond, not even if I was made into a kittypet." The two cats stared into one another's eyes, purring. I swear it too, Thinfur thought. I swear it. Nothing will break our bonds. I would take on StarClan for you.
Neither cat noticed as a dark grey she-cat silently stalked away, her beautiful green eyes glistening with sorrow.
I know- the prolgue contained a lot of fluff... I'm going crazy that FOUR people read the prologue already; I know it isn't a lot, but it's my first fanfic! Please comment and say if you liked it. Thanks!
