the dull ache in donghyuck's heart the remainder of the day hurt as if it were a real stab wound. he didn't think renjun leaving him on seen would be the thing that hurt him the most.

as evening rolled around, minhyung noticed donghyuck's silence. "baby, you okay? something wrong?" but it only made the pain in donghyuck grow more. yet he forced himself to tell minhyung that everything was fine! everything was swell! there's nothing to worry about, my darling. the smile on minhyung's face told donghyuck he had been fooled enough. he'd been getting good at that lately: fooling minhyung into thinking he was fine.

donghyuck sometimes forgot that he was capable of fooling himself too.

late nights, his mind would wander to renjun again. the text floating it in his head, never wanting to fully disappear from his thoughts. he thought about what could've been. renjun then... he was nice and funny. sweet and definitely caring. renjun then seemed perfect. all his memories came flooding back to him. his first breakdown with renjun, conversations about their favourite colours, how donghyuck couldn't draw a sunflower properly, how high he got on juice and cartoons, literally serving renjun tea each day!... donghyuck cried to renjun about minhyung, said he wanted to forget him yet here he was a month and some more later in minhyung's bed. every morning he woke to minhyung, every night ended with minhyung. though lately, his nights have ended with renjun filling that sorry little head of his.

how long would donghyuck take to realise what's been waiting for him for so long?

"hyuck-ah, why're you still awake?" minhyung mumbled. though it was on its darkest setting, donghyuck's phone still lit up pretty brightly. "sorry, checking my game." he lied (but why was that so natural to him?). "go and sleep, baby." donghyuck felt the poison on his tongue when he gave his reply, upset that minhyung interrupted his conversation with renjun (even if renjun had been the one to first bid him goodnight). he turned the other way and the heat of his anger dissipated within him when he thought of renjun. it seemed like their friendship was going to repeat itself after all.
