I tried in a feeble attempt to escape the bullish man's grasp, but as his friends begin to swarm in and grab on to each of my limbs to stabilize me, I realized that I had truly made a mistake. In my quest for freedom and my desperation for adventure I had forgotten one crucial detail, I needed a weapon, and while I might not be a good fighter, at least having something as a form of protection was better than nothing.

As they carried me through the forest, the only thing that raced through my thoughts were how I was going to get out of this. I could feel myself shaking as my heart pounded painfully against my chest making it difficult to breathe. 'This was not at all the adventure that I was hoping for' I thought as they began laughing and taunting me.

"Can you feel her shaking? She's probably thinking about her mommy." One of them jeered.

They all laughed as another chimed in, "Too bad, it seems like the little princess shouldn't have strayed too far from home."

"Oh, but if she hadn't then we wouldn't have been able to show her our surprise." Another butted in.

The man behind me laughed as one of his friends, that wasn't holding on to me strutted towards us as he whipped out a knife and began to slowly glide it across my cheek. "And my do we have quite the surprise for you, your majesty."

"What do you want?" I demanded, trying to keep my voice from wavering but failing miserably.

They laughed once again before another one stepped up towards me, "You'll find out soon enough, princess." And with that the continued to carry me through the woods kicking and screaming as they cackled and sneered the whole way. I had thought about all the stories that Sir Drosselmeyer had told me when I was younger and how none of them compared to what I was experiencing right now. But just then a thought had occurred to me. Or more like a memory I should say.

I remembered when mother had told me a story for the first time, the stories of the Beasts of the Light, and I compared it to the situation now. How these men appeared to be ordinary villagers but there was something about them that didn't seem right. How their hands, that appeared clean and callous free as if they had never worked a day in their life held onto my ankles, arms, and wrist in a vice like grip as their nails dug into my skin.

I shook my head as I willed my horror filled thoughts away. This whole plan of mine was slowly turning into a nightmare, and if they truly were what I think they are then I am in much more danger than I thought.

It was only a couple of minutes when we broke from the trees and came across a town where there were a whole bunch of villagers dancing and cheering and smiling blissfully. If I didn't know any better, then these men would have riled me up for no reason. However, I wasn't fooled, if anything, everything that was happening before me only solidified my theory.

When the villagers saw us, the atmosphere had completely changed, no longer was it fun and cheery, instead it changed to one that was charged with vicious excitement and danger. The cheers transformed into howls as screeches as they reached for me. I attempted to move away from them but seeing as I was still in the men's iron grip, I couldn't do much. My poor heart felt like it was about to burst out of my chest as I met eyes with each villager that we passed by only to see cruel delight and hunger.

Suddenly and unexpectedly the men had let me go, dropping me unceremoniously onto the ground. As quick as I could I scrambled to stand only to have the villagers begin to push me around in a circle. I screamed as I was pushed into the arms of each villager, their faces that showed a smooth human complexion began to melt away as I continued to be tossed around. Their eyes shining a startling red as their skin appeared to bubble and scar. There smile stretched to display the sharp incisors and their forked tongues that flickered out of their mouths as they growled.
