Soooo. exams are over (not really lol). Doing this while memorising hitler stuff because my fingers are itching to do something :<

Anyways, i doodle quite a lot in my notebooks in school so i'm redrawing a best selected art from my older book, from 2018. now, please note that i selected the best one from it so it doesn't mean my art was THAT good all the time XD sighhh, i improved the most in 2018 and kind of stopped improving afterwards... kinda sad :,)
[planned to redraw one from 2019 but i ain't got the time for that if i want to practice digital art shading]

anyways, july 2018:

idk what i drew tbh

idk what i drew tbh. did that in math class if i remembered correctly. so like i just wanted to draw something and therefore :) the stuff blacked out are the words i wrote around it. (sorry if it's too distracting)

what i liked about the piece:
i think it's kinda dynamic? i didn't notice at first but i realised my posing recently has become stiffer when i tried sketching it out... i really liked the anxious look in her face. the cat was actually pretty impressive considering i'm crap at animals and i did it with zero references. like howww?!

what i absolutely hate:
i didn't know how to shade lol. like i started shading only a few months ago (like around three, hence the quick improvement of art in 2018) so there was a lot of random highlights that are really weird. i think i just pressed down my eraser on those white parts. also the hands are really uncomfortable looking, face is kinda weird but it's acceptable i guess. the overall proportions is pretty messed up, but it's not like i improved much on this two years later... cat is too fluffy (not complaining tho) the cape is... questionable. i think i just like twisty fabrics too much

redraw, july 2020:

i struggled quite a lot with the posing because after two years i mainly draw the top half of a person

i struggled quite a lot with the posing because after two years i mainly draw the top half of a person. like a wholllleeee lot. i've been practicing more full body stuff the past few weeks but i've gotten rusty :)

what i improved on:
hair shading is definitely wayyyy better. one of my better traditional hair shading this year. not sure if you noticed but her hair is sort of tucked into the hood. (yes she has a hood lol) i kinda like that i changed the design of the cape slightly and the cape is less flowy now. the hands look less awkward in this version. at first i wanted to do a more realistic cat shading but decided to stick on the version younger me wanted which was a sort of shadowy version. never drew these kinda stuff before so i think it's decent for a first try. (couldn't find a proper tutorial or reference for this)

what i hate:
the cat looks weird but i have already tried correcting it twice and... well. the body proportions of the girl looks kind of off. i think i would need a reference cuz i didn't use one XD. and why do i keep using anime like eyes on characters this year =.= furthermore, i realise i don't know how to shade uhm, shoes XD to be fair i never really shaded shoes as far as i remember ahaha, just drew the outline at most. i also can't do folds on clothes, something i struggle with a lot normally so i'm not surprised with the results.

okayyy so over with the redraw. i've found some share-worthy stuff of other things i doodled in the two books from the past two years. i'm actually sort of impressed with my old art sometimes. (i draw a lot of nicer, but darker and more personal stuff which i'm not going to show) not going to write a whole ton of review about these guys so:

(and plus polish up with digital art with tons of practice while i have the timeeee) cya~
