When creating your characters name you should do the following;

What type of person is your OC, if you could categorise them with one word what would you call them? Once you have your word google what names means that.

Similarly, you could pick a word that is the total opposite of what they are to be ironic.

For example:
Your OC is extremely intelligent, their names could include...

'Alfie' meaning 'Wise counsellor'

'Dara' meaning 'Pearl of Wisdom'

'Sophia' meaning 'Wisdom'

'Abbey' meaning 'intelligence'

'Athena' meaning 'goddess of wisdom and warfare'

The lists are endless and it's a quick and easy way to find the perfect name you're looking for, it's also a great basis if you find a name that can be changed around spelling wise to suit your taste.

Meanings play a big role in your characters names, putting thought behind your OC's and side characters names makes them much closer to you and influences your writing a hell of a lot!!

Unless you are looking to be ironic it wouldn't be best if your evil OC is named something that means 'grace' etc.

So make sure before you settle on a name you know what it's meaning is!!
