i stand up as the doctor comes out of the room.
"is she.....?"
"she's not breathing" the doctor hangs her head "it grazed her rib cage, close to her heart but missed. she has severe injuries and is in the ICU"
i sit back down, tears in my eyes. this can't be happening. she deserved better. she can't die like this. she has an entire life ahead of her.
"can i please see her?" i say
"i'm afraid...you aren't family" she says softly and my heart sinks. if she's....
no! erick, do not let your mind go there. she cannot be dead.
"i can make an exception. you really love her don't you?" she smiles gently at me and i nod.
patting my back, she leads me to Naomis room and i gasp at the sight of her. she's pale and her cheekbones are sunken. she looks dead. my heart breaks and tears fill my eyes. no.
"hey" i say "i don't know if you can hear me. but i.....i love you"
i hold her hand and kiss her forehead, both feeling cold and still.
her eyes flutter and i step back. is she....
the heart monitor starts working again and i'm shocked.
her eyes flutter open
"erick?" she whispers and i shush her.
"don't speak" i'm overjoyed. she's not dead. she's alive.
she shakes her head "i love you too. i love you so much" she coughs and i hand her a glass of water and turn to call the doctor but i don't need to.
she's standing right there smiling at us
"i knew it" she whispers "it's like sleeping beauty"
we three burst out laughing at that and then the doc leaves us alone.
"are you okay" i ask and she nods
"it hurts but it's bearable"
"that's okay" i kiss her hair softly and pull her to my chest.
"don't leave me, Erick. please?" Naomi looks at me hopefully.
"love, im never going anywhere" i pull her closer to my chest and we cuddle.
"no matter what happens, i got you"
