I felt my way through the darkness, stopping when I thought I heard a noise. The needles were in my hand that I had in front of me, I saw a shadow and walked quietly to the figure. I saw Jacks figure come from the bed and knew who I was behind was my father, I raised the needles for the second time and let them sink into him for the last time. I saw blue and red lights reflect on the wall. I dragged the body into the light, father's face looked younger now that it wasn't in a frown, lips were in a straight line. For once he looked like he was in peace, I put him there. I knew that neither of my parents were coming back, I had to wake up from my fantasies.
"Grace," Jack scurried to me and held me as police officers swarmed in and took his body out of my sight. Weight was lifted off my shoulders, but guilt still stuck around. He was my father no matter what and the memories weren't fake. He did love me.
I was taken out of the hospital and started to live with Jack. We moved into a nicer house, both of us held a well paid job. A new town, a new life.
A year went by and Christmas came, the ground covered in millions of snowflakes that shined in the light like diamonds. I sat on the couch, Jack had a smile on his face. "Come look at what's in the kitchen." He held my hand with one hand and guided me with his other hand on the little of my back. We entered the kitchen and sitting there was a little puppy.
I was speechless, many memories ran through my head but I held my surprised and happy look on my face. "Awe how adorable!" I squealed running to him.
"Damn, he did have a bow..." he smiled and walked over, bending over, "do you like him?" He was nervous on his big step he has just taken.
I smiled, "of course!" I leaned in and kissed him, I stood up and asked, " got an idea for a name?" I stared at his tongue hanging out of his mouth.
"I went on line, yeah yeah make fun of me all you want! I really liked one though that stood out..." he smiled unsure of what I was going to think.
"Tell me! Your killing me here." I pushed him playfully, he wrapped his arms around me and smiled with his eyes on my lips.
"Well since your begging... gunner." He looked at me, my heart skipped a beat at the name. I kept it all in.
"I love it!" I lied.
