"what?" he couldn't get it through his head what she was trying to say.

"you heard me, alexander. we've known each other since we were little. we've been dating for four years. we grew up in this baltimore and will probably stay in baltimore. people already expect us to get married and settle down with kids. i don't want this, alexander. i don't want you."

"sammy-" alexander's words shrivelled up in his throat as she gave him a small smile and turned. she began to slowly walk back to her car. alexander felt tears well in his eyes but refused to cry in public.
