Christian's POV
Well, she couldn't make it to my tryouts. There were bunch of thoughts going in and around my mind but I couldn't even afford to let self-doubt to seep in cause I knew once it gets to my mind, I lose all my confidence. I captained Madison right from sophomore year to senior year, cause there wasn't any  better player than me and therefore, nervousness wasn't really my cup of tea but surprise ofcourse caught me off-gaurd when I saw Adrian walk in the court.
                              “Hey, you here for tryouts?”
                              “Seems so,” I smiled.
“What do you say about having a game?” Adrian smirked.
                              “Why not?” I shrugged.
“Come at it,” I said as I bounced and dribbled the ball to and fro between my palm and the wooden floor.
I pranced across and reached for the basket. Adrian smirked,“I see, you got moved.”
With that, he slid the ball away from my grip and headed to the other end. I won't say his journey to the other end wasn't tough because I didn't let it happen. With every chance, I tried to grab the ball out of his reach. Somehow, playing with him reminded me of James. The game went on and we were competing almost and at a point of tie, I called it out for a tie breaker cause if it went on, it would never come to an end.
“You're good,” I said admitting the fact.
“Bro, you're better,” he said after I basket the three pointer and he couldn't. He gave me a side hug and patted my shoulder. I smiled as I began to feel the same old friendly vibes I used to get from my best buddy.
“We'll kill it, if we play together," he smirked.
“Hell, we will and we are so playing together,” I said recalling our coordination from the game, few minutes ago.
And guess what? By the end of the tryouts, we both got in the team.
                                                  ▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️
I walked into the class with Adrian as we had same classes. As soon as I got in, my eyes landed on Blaire. I walked up to her and took the seat beside her while Adrian sat in her left. I won't deny, but the situation felt real awkward.
“How was your tryouts?” she whispered.
“It was good, we got in,” I smiled.
                              “We?”
“As in, me and Adrian,” I eyed towards him.
“You kidding me? He plays basketball? ” she asked with amusement and glittering eyes as if it was the most amazing thing she heard in a while.
“Yeah, stop fawning,” I said, disgusted.
She rolled her eyes and glanced at him which he returned with a flattering smile. The professor walked in and the long stretched class went on and on forever until he said,“We are going to have pairs for this assignment.”
“What do you say? Will you be my partner?” I asked in a flirty voice.
“Oh! Puh...lease, this is the last thing I want,” she said pouting.
                              “Ouch, my heart is aching,"
“Starting from the far right end,” the professor said as he raised his right hand and signalled,“every alternative person with take the person sitting on their left as their partners.”
With a bulge of excitement, I turned to my left at Blaire while she turned left to Adrian and I felt the person on my right was looking at me, waiting for me to respond. I turned back at him and groaned internally.
“Why don't I get to chose?” I thought out loud.
“You saying something?” Blaire asked as she turned to me again.
Immediately I regretted not sitting on her left side and cursed myself under my breath.

                         ▪️▪️▪️▪️
I walked down the hall in search of Blaire but then headed towards the dorm as I couldn't spot her in the huge campus. I was going to open the door when I heard noises and then Blaire shouted,“Get the hell out bitch -- how dare you get in my dorm? Just get lost --,”
She was screaming like an angry old woman and the very next minute a terrified girl came running out of the dorm and walked the other way, even without acknowledging my presence.
“What the hell was that?” I asked as I walked in.
“I scared away one of your slutty bitches away from the room," she shrugged.
“Well, should you get oscar for that?”
“Why would you even do that?”
“It is my room too, you should atleast show some decency of asking me before inviting one of your hookups to our room,” she explained, her tone rising.
“Firstly, I didn't invite her. It's not my fault that girls are crazy around me and secondly why would you think that she'd be one of my hook-ups?” I shrugged.
“I mean I can take things pretty seriously with her right? You know how things are lately?"
I could clearly see hot steam about to blow her head up but before she could answer, a knock at the door caught our attention. She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and took a deeo breath as she walked to the door.
                              “Yes, Adrian,”
“Hey, wanna grab a burger or something?”
“Yeah...umm... I'm running a bit short of time but yeah sure,"
She walked back to her bed to fetch her back but met my eyes and returned my gaze. Her eyes were fixated on me while I was giving her a questioning look with a raised eyebrow. She rolled her eyes and was about to leave.
“Hey, mind me tagging along?” I asked.
“No, Chris. Why would we?" Adrian replied immediately.
                              “Fine then, let's go.”
I glanced at her age her my winning smirk while she rolled her eyes all over again and asked, “Hey, Lawrence wanna come over tonight about that assignment?”
“I'd be pleased to, Willy,” Adrian replied grinning.
“Delightful. They even started calling each other by nicknames,” I muttered in a low whisper as my frustration was about to blow up.
