Judging Criteria

Below you will find the criteria we will judge your first chapter on, as well as what you need in order to get top marks within each category. 

COVER - 10 points

The cover is original and visually appealing. The title and subtitles are properly aligned and sized. The font is clear and easy to read. The image relates to the genre and/or plot.

SYNOPSIS - 10 points

The synopsis is interesting and original. The grammar and spelling are perfect. The synopsis introduces the story with a problem statement or teaser in 150-250 words. 

FIRST LINE HOOK - 10 points

The first 1-3 lines hook you into the story. There are no grammar or spelling mistakes. This is a memorable intro.

DIALOGUE/NARRATION/TONE - 10 points

The dialogue is believable and the narration flows well. It is clear who is speaking. The sentences within paragraphs are varried in structure. There are no structural or gramatical mistakes with dialogue or sentence tag punctuation. The tone fits the story or scene and evokes emotion in the reader. Word choice is varried and complex.

PLOT - 10 points

The plot is fresh and original with good pacing. It is clear and easy to follow. Reader is invested in the story. 

CHARACTER - 10 points

The character/s are fleshed out, credible and realistic. Each have unique personalites and voices. Reader is invested in characters.

WORLDBUILDING - 10 points

The worldbuilding is rich and deep. There are no info dumps. The world seems believable. 

GRAMMAR/PUNCTUATION - 30 points

This is a spelling, punctuation, and grammar mistake free submission. This is very clearly a final draft.
