and people noticed
for the first time in her life though
she didn't give a fuck
she didn't want to please anybody

life
did it mean that if she had a pretty face
she could only go out
with jocks
or musicians
or rich people
or handsome ones?
he gave her a kind of solidarity
something she knew she needed
so desperately
she gave him a smile
they walked under the twinkling lights
under the lights of the garden arch
he noticed that she smiled
a smile that reached her eyes
"do you want to dance?" he asked her
she stopped and she stared at him
he was supposed to apologize
when suddenly
she took
eight
steps
towards him
he gave her his dimpled smile
and took her hand and waist
held her close
and they danced
with no music
