Hi, my name is Miles and I'm the Spider-Man from a different universe. I'm here to educate you on what Black Lives Matter is really about.
Racism towards black people in America has always been an issue, even before George Floyd's death. His death however was what had people saying "enough is enough" and the movement became bigger and more prominent.
Saying that black lives matter, doesn't take away anything from white people. Saying all lives matter does take away from black people. Because we are aware that all lives matter, no one said that they didn't but we aren't discussing all lives right now. We're discussing black lives because that's the issue right now. And there is an issue.
Just take a look at the statistics:
• Unarmed black men are 7 times more likely to die by police gunfire.
• Whites Americans use drugs more than black americans but black people are arrested for drug possession three times more often than white people.
• Black men receive prison sentences 19.5% longer than white men who have committed similar crimes.
• In 2018 it was found that overall income for Black Americans was 42% lower than that of White Americans.
These are just a few examples of the shocking and blatant racism in America. And by this point you may be asking, how can I help? A good question, here are some things you can do to help:
• Sign petitions
• Educate yourself
• Donate
• Text or call demanding justice
• Protest (stay safe)
