Jessie Nightshade, the Third Bad Wolf, was born after her predecessor was killed by the Master during the end of time. She's the one who pilots the TARDIS to safety . . . although she's not able to stop the Doctor from getting his time senses confused, returning first twelve years late to Amelia Pond, then two years late again. After meeting River Song again, Jessie is told by Bishop Octavian that River should not be trusted, and that she killed "a good woman." Concerned, Jessie leaves, and is ticked off immensely when Amy tries to seduce the Doctor.
To try and help, the Doctor and Jessie recruit Rory Williams to come onboard the TARDIS. Jessie takes him on as her companion, and to Amy's frustration, he defends her against Amy's ignorance of the woman. After the Dream Lord shows them Jessie's greatest fears, Amy and Jessie make amends, and the bond between Pilot and companion grows. When captured by the Silurians, Jessie takes dissection for Amy, to the Doctor's fury, but she closes herself off after Rory dies taking a shot from Restac meant for the Doctor. She is ultimately delighted to meet him again at the Pandorica, and she and the Doctor make an appearance at the wedding of Rory and Amy, surprising their SHIELD friends with their new regenerations.
It is revealed that Jessie is the one standing on Lake Silencio, and she was killed by River Song. In a desperate attempt to see if they could help, FitzSimmons join the TARDIS crew, and Jessie takes Jemma as her companion. Jessie was extremely close to Idris when she absorbed the TARDIS Matrix, and was devastated when the woman died. When it is revealed that she has been a Ganger since 1969, the Doctor rallies everyone they have saved to get her back, only for them to lose Amy's child Melody in the process.
While searching for Melody Pond, the Time Lords are recalled to Earth to help the Avengers retrieve Loki's scepter. When Tony Stark's project called Ultron starts to rise up against them, the Doctor and Jessie fight alongside the Avengers to destroy him. Following the Battle of Sokovia, Jessie saves Pietro from being shot to death by Ultron at the cost of being shot herself, and when Wanda kills Ultron's main host in response, the Doctor pulls Wanda from Sokovia as the city falls. Pietro and Wanda discover Jessie's future, and after reading the records of the Tesselecta, Jessie starts planning with the Maximoffs for her death. In time, when the Doctor attempts to stop her, the Maximoffs and Vision hold him back while Jessie uses the dampening bracelet given to her by Thor to sever their blood bond, only for River to reveal Jessie had been a Tesselecta all along.
When the Ponds are separated from the Time Lords by Weeping Angels, and after witnessing River's death in the Library, Jessie starts to close herself off even from the Doctor, preferring to be cold and turn to the soldier side she kept to herself. The mystery of Clara Oswald, however, enraptures her so much she gains the nickname "Mad Wolf." The Maximoffs join the TARDIS crew as Jessie's companions, Clara as the Doctor's with Jessie as her teacher. It is only after the Cyberiad and nearly being destroyed by the Great Intelligence that Jessie beings to lose the soldier persona. With help from all four Doctors, she starts to return to her former self, to the point that when the Maximoffs and Clara return to Trenzalore following the wars against their greatest enemies, Jessie is back to her former self. Her end ultimately comes when the Doctor dies of old age, and they are granted equal regeneration cycles by the Time Lords.
The Third Bad Wolf is very blunt and is more serious when she talks, although she is extremely flirty with the Doctor, much more so than her last incarnation. ;) The Doctor is reminded that, even though she seems relaxed, this version was born into a soldier, remembering how the Master called her a "monster" before she died. She remains light and fun, not letting her soldier side take over until the loss of the Ponds and River. After, she prefers to be cold and distant, and protects Clara Oswald with everything she has, even training the woman to the level of the Avengers. After nearly being killed by the Great Intelligence in her own timestream, Jessie starts to return to her old self and remains that way until her death on Trenzalore.
The Third Bad Wolf has dark hair that is not quite straight, but not quite wavy either. Her bangs are held back by bobby pins, then braided and tied off in the back of her head. Her eyes are stormy grey, like the Doctor's name, The Oncoming Storm, and she has regained her American accent. Amy thinks she went through the Halloween chest when choosing her outfit, although the Third Bad Wolf wears it normally. She wears a black camisole tank top under an off the shoulder off white loose shirt, a hot pink skirt with a black belt with a gold buckle to hold it up, black leggings, black heeled boots, and a dark mauve frock style coat. Her sonic blaster is still in its holster under her skirt. She is described as "looking like a pirate," but the Doctor believes she still holds her Asgardian side as well.
Following the deaths of the Ponds and River, and when they meet Clara Oswald, the Third Bad Wolf changes her wardrobe entirely. She wears a black vest top, black cargo pants, black motor boots, black fingerless gloves and a floor-length black leather coat. She has also dyed her hair blonde and wears it in a braid over her shoulder. After Sweetville, she lets the dye out and her hair returns to its natural color.
She is portrayed by Alexandra Daddario, and her theme is "Warlords" by Audiomachine.
Her main stories are "Rising From The Ashes," "Living In Time And Space," "Fighting A New War," "Screeching To A Halt," and "Experiencing The Impossible," and she appeared very briefly in a vision to the Ninth Doctor in "Running Through The Stars." She makes an appearance with the Eleventh Doctor and both Maximoffs in "Apocalypse Rising: Book Five" during "The Next Doctor." She returns briefly in a dreamscape to Tony Stark and Steve Rogers in "Tearing Relationships Apart."
