One Hundred Seventy Five Miles

The windows swell with infinite darkness

As the air grows hot and heavy inside.

My brain swirls with a million thoughts

And my chest feels tight with worry and fear.

Time has crept upon me like a panther

Stalking a bashful deer in the forest.

In two short weeks, nothing will be the same,

For my life is changing before my eyes.

Before I know it, I'm going to be

One hundred seventy-five miles away.

Away from the safety of family,

Away from the house I've called home for years.

If only I had cherished my years of

Living at home and going to high school.

My life is going too fast and I wish,

I wish everything could just slow down.
