Ghost growls quietly and I open my eyes to see someone flying towards us. I tense up, but Ghost is still relaxed and the dragon is flying calmly and not that fast. I stand in the stirrups to get a better look. As they get closer, I smile at the sight of Ember, with Jordan on her back.
"Out early today, huh?" He says as Ember turns to fly beside us.
"Yeah, no dreams last night." I reply.
"Really? That's good, right?"
I shrug. "I guess we'll see."
"I guess we will." He agrees quietly. We fly in silence for a while, and it feels good. We keep flying until we get to the outskirts of town, and Ember swerves away to another guard, a woman on a forest
dragon, who's looking out across the woods. Me and Ghost follow, and try to keep up with their conversation.
"Is this her?" The woman asks, looking at me. "The one who warned everyone."
"Yep." Jordan answers. "Her and her dragon, the both had them."
"And he's a fog dragon." She gasps. "They're pretty uncommon." I don't say anything, I just shrug and pat Ghost's neck again. His head jerks to the side, and I'm scared I might have somehow hurt him. But then I see Ember and the forest dragon doing the same. "What's going on?" The woman looks in the same direction and squints her eyes. Then they grow wide and she turns back to us. Without saying anything, she grabs a radio at her waste and talks into it. "They're coming."I was told to fly home and warn as many people as possible on the way. Jordan stayed, so he could help if the attackers got here before the backup. Ghost flies low so I can yell to anybody nearby about the coming danger. Half of the remaining people are hiding while half are ready to fight. When I finally get home, I tell Jess, then run inside to text Claire and Nick. They already know, but they're gonna stay
home with their families. I just hope my recent dreams don't come true.
I'm not hiding, and neither is Jess. We're both on our dragons, and we're flying back to where I last saw Jordan and his friend. We don't make it far. The attackers are already coming into the city, and more of the dragons and riders from the base are rushing to join them. I turn to Jess.
"Don't die." I tell her, and she looks over at me.
"Don't worry about me. Worry about yourself." I just nod, and for the first time I realize just how real this is. We could die today. A lot of people could die today, and no one can stop it. "Be careful." She adds, then rushes to help one soldier who's dragon is up against one that's twice its size. I'm about to tell Ghost to help when I hear it. That incredibly loud roar, and I hold my hands over my ears. Seconds later the giant appears, and everyone below it seems affected by the power of its wings alone. It flies closer and
closer to us, and the fighting beyond seems to lessen as even the followers stop to stare at their leader and his dragon.
