APJ Abdul Kalam  'Missile Man' of India


Aul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam, popularly known as APJ Abdul Kalam
was an Indian aerospace scientist and also a political leader who served as 11th President of India from the year 2002 to 2007. He was also intimately involved in India's civilian space programme and military missile development efforts. He was nicknamed 'Missile Man of India
for his contribution in the development of ballistic missile and launch vehicle technology in India. Kalam also played a pivotal organisational, technical, and political role in India's Pokhran-II nuclear tests in 1998, the first since the original nuclear test by India in 1974.
APJ Abdul Kalam was born on 15 October 1931 to a Tamil Muslim family in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu. He studied physics and aerospace engineering, and later served as a scientist and science administrator at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). He was elected as the 11th President of India in 2002. He was a recipient of several prestigious awards, including Padma Bhushan (1981), Padma Vibhushan (1990), Bharat Ratna (1997), Veer Savarkar Award (1998).
