Everyone had gone home hours earlier, and Renjun's parents had not yet come home from visiting his sister in the hospital. His room was once again dimly lit by a single lamp as an ominous darkness shrouded the room. The sky had turned black, the trembling snow cowering away from his window as he pulled his notebook again.
No.44 Lee Jinyoung
The pages of the stained notebook were filling at a quick rate, making Renjun smile sadistically as he flicked through the pages, admiring the mix of names. The loss their families went through, the pain and the grieving of the victims' children as the had to begin a new life without a mother or father. It all brought Renjun too much joy and satisfaction.
Small flecks of dried blood had been splattered on recent pages.
Its browning colour defeated the purpose of his killing streak though. It used to be such a vibrant and alive shade of crimson, but now as it aged by weeks, it became nothing more than a reminder that all good things come to an end eventually.
As the thought came to mind, he saw a petal fall from the rose in his vase. The once magnificent and glorious flower had begun wilting with lack of sun and water.
Renjun loved red, he truly did, but he loved the macabre truth of death more. Watching the brown and faded red petals fall, reminded him of the death he surrounded himself with.
That then led him to remember the cases where he had failed in his ways. His sister for example. The bitch had started to 'connect the dots', and that - for someone like Renjun - was a game over.
Besides, as far as his over-trusting parents were concerned, his clumsy sister had fallen down the stairs and had hit her head.
And that was all that mattered, his parents had believed him.
"You won't breathe a word," he mumbled to himself, a sinister tone lacing the words as he glanced over at his baseball bat in the corner. "Or I'll kill you."
