Mech woke up. She had fallen asleep reading the manual. Wonder what time it is, she thought, as she looked out the window. No sign of her home planet. She stepped away and walked out the door to the dining room. Most of the crew was there, who had almost finished breakfast. "Where is the first mate?" Mech asked the captain. "She is always late, as I said earlier." Mech grabbed a tray with her breakfast, and sat down. "How far is the star system that we headed to from here?" She asked. "Maybe a hundred light-years, give or take a few." "Oh, yeah, I forgot to give you this," the tech manager said, placing a device around Mech's wrist. "What is it?" Mech asked. "It tells time, shows your location on the main computer, commutation system, and basically shows that you are still alive." "You say alive almost as if somebody had died before," said Mech. Quickly, the captain chimed in, "Nobody has died on one of my ships since The Great Star War of 2253." "Good to know."
