Luna.
The next morning, I woke up to find Copper out of our scrape, and discussing something with the other bucks. Bigwig stood inside our scrape, watching the outside just in case an Elil came along. He only turned his head to glance at me once, after he heard me wake up.
"What in Frith's name is that rabbit doing?" Copper asked as a plump redish-brown rabbit stood on its hind legs as he walked towards us.
"Who are you? And what do you want?" Hazel asks as Copper quickly comes into our scrape and covers me from view, causing Bigwig to look over to us in confusion, but he quickly turns back to the strange rabbit.
"My name is Cowslip. I come from a warren just across the field here. I don't want anything from you. You look tired, have you come a long way?" The strange buck notes as he stands across the path from us.
"So what if we have?" Bigwig says protectively. "That doesn't mean we can't defend ourselves."
"I don't doubt that for one second. Our warren's not as big as we'd like, but there's enough food to go around. And if you'd like to live with us, we'd welcome you. These scrapes you have don't look too comfortable. And there's more heavy storms on their way." He turns away. "Anyway, if you'll excuse me, I hate the rain."
"Well, that was unexpected." Bluebell speaks up as Hawkbit follows after.
"We're going, right? He seemed nice. I liked him. Let's go. Let's go right now." Hawkbit says as I start to feel pain in my stomach as I gasp.
"Luna? Is everything alright?" Copper asks, making the bucks turn to us.
"I'm fine, probably just hungry is all." I say softly. I knew that wasn't the only reason, and Copper knew it too, but she went along with it.
"But why did he invite us there? It makes no sense to share with us." Fiver says, getting a bad feeling about the strange buck. Same as I.
"Here we go again." One of the bucks say as Copper helps me out of the scrape as they decide whether we go or not. Hazel decides to side with the bucks, instead of his own brother. Copper stops us beside Fiver.
"Fiver, I have a bad feeling too, but we need to find some place warm for the night, and we are all hungry, it'll only be for a bit, alright?"
"Aright. How are they?" Fiver sighs as the bucks are already ahead of us. Copper runs beside me with Fiver as we talk. "Only I know, right?"
"Yes. I haven't told anyone else except Copper. Please, Fiver, don't tell anyone, alright?" He nods at my request. "And they're fine."
"Friends. Welcome. Let me take you down, to the Great Burrow." Cowslip greets us as we make it to their large tree, and it looks obvious, so theres bound to be humans and elil who know they are living here.
"Is there any food we could have? My friend needs to eat soon, please." Copper asks as we make it inside the burrow. Fiver sticks close to Hazel.
"Strawberry, could you show these two where the food is?" Cowslip asks.
"Sure! Come along. It shouldn't take long." She smiles as she leads us away. "I'm Strawberry, I hope we can be friends? I don't have many."
"Sure. I'm Luna, and this is Copper." I introduce as Copper follows behind us, extra cautious and alert. "Thank you for showing us where to go."
"No problem, I'm sure you need to eat a lot. Your mate must be so happy." She says with a smile and we stop at the burrow that has food.
"How did you know?" Copper asks as she watches Strawberry.
"You're positively glowing. Is your mate the big rabbit with the black fur on top?" Strawberry asks me and I nod, she giggles. "You two are cute."
"Thank you, Strawberry." I say as Copper nudges me into the burrow. "Uh, my mate and our friends don't know about it yet, if you wouldn't mind not saying anything about this, it would be much appreciated."
"Of course! Your secret is safe with me!" She giggles before leaving the way we came. I turn to Copper, who is already gathering Sow Thistle for me.
"This place is strange. Its much larger than we expected, he said it wasn't as big as they wished? Why are there so many empty burrows? I don't smell any sign of disease, but that rabbit, Cowslip, smells like death and rot."
"Calm yourself, Copper. We are guests here, and like I told Fiver, we will only stay for a night, I'm sure of it. Now, lets eat." I calm her.
After eating my fill, Copper and I took some Sow Thistle back to the main burrow, and passed it around to the other Bucks in our group. Before we saw that Strawberry had disappeared with Fiver and Hazel. While Bigwig and I were not on the best of terms, we still got a burrow together, with Copper in the one across from ours, where she chatted with Strawberry.
"Are you upset with me, Luna?" Bigwig whispered as he entered.
"Why would you think that?" I ask, lifting my head from where it laid on my paws as I was ready to sleep for the night. He laid beside me.
"Because we haven't talked since the Corvil attack, and you stayed in a scrape with Copper." He says, gesturing his head to the doe.
"I just haven't been in a talkative mood, and you know Copper, she worries about me a lot." I play it off like she was just worrisome. "And you've been harsh on Hazel and Fiver recently, when they are doing nothing wrong. Fiver is having visions that warn him of danger, so he tries to warn us to protect us. And Hazel is doing his best to keep us together."
"And I'm not?" He huffs out as he looks away from me angrily.
"I never said that, my love. You are protecting us with all you have, but you are only seeing this place as somewhere to sleep and eat, you do not see the danger Fiver sees and I feel. There is something evil and dangerous lurking in this warren. And while I do not want to, I will leave here tomorrow, with or without you and the others."
"Get some rest, Luna." I hear Copper say and I obey, facing away from Bigwig as I lay my head on my paws, sleeping peacefully.
