Ack, I'm unsure if this really fits into the "oneshot" category but I just read the ~updated~ blurb for Aru Shah and the City of Gold. For reference, here's the blurb. Spoilers for Aru Shah and the Tree of Wishes are below. Read if you wish.

"Aru Shah and her sisters--including one who also claims to be the Sleeper's daughter--must find their mentors Hanuman and Urvashi in Lanka, the city of gold, before war breaks out between the devas and asuras.

Aru has just made a wish on the tree of wishes, but she can't remember what it was. She's pretty sure she didn't wish for a new sister, one who looks strangely familiar and claims to be the Sleeper's daughter, like her.

Aru also isn't sure she still wants to fight on behalf of the devas in the war against the Sleeper and his demon army. The gods have been too devious up to now. Case in point: Kubera, ruler of the city of gold, promises to give the Pandavas two powerful weapons, but only if they win his trials. If they lose, they won't stand a chance against the Sleeper's troops, which will soon march on Lanka to take over the Otherworld.

Aru's biggest question, though, is why every adult she has loved and trusted so far has failed her. Will she come to peace with what they've done before she has to wage the battle of her life?

Anyways, here comes my theory. This contains a big spoiler for Aru Shah and Tree of Wishes and possibly Aru Shah and the City of Gold as well. You have been forewarned.

So in the epilogue of Tree of Wishes, we meet Kara, who is theorized to be Karna, the secret Pandava. In the blurb, it says. "Case in point: Kubera, ruler of the city of gold, promises to give the Pandavas two powerful weapons, but only if they win his trials."

So this lead me to think...

What if the Pandavas' competiton in these "trials"(i.e tournament) is Kara?

Okay, now hold on, you might be thinking, where'd that come from? Well, it all stems from the fact of Karna and Arjuna's rivalry in the original Mahabharata. Their rivalry began after the Pandavas and Kauravas returned from the forest after 12 years of being taught by Drona(another story for another time). The emperor Dhritarastra(the father of the Kauravas, and yes I did my research) hosted a competition to see who was the most capable in combat. Arjuna wins against Duryodhana(the oldest and most powerful Kaurava), but before he can claim his victory, Karna steps in, saying that his archery skills were superior. The emperor lets them battle it out, but neither wins by sundown(it's implied that Arjuna would've won had it not been sunset.).  (But keep in mind, in some versions of the Mahabharata, Arjuna and Karna meet somewhere else, but they still develop a sort of rivalry.)

So my thoughts turned to Kara and Aru. What if their "rivalry" started in a competition, too, or maybe in Kubera's trials? Maybe, Kara and Aru would compete to get the weapons? This would, one, mimic the original Mahabharata, and two, make for a interesting plot line. Of course, in the blurb, it also says Kara is going to be coming on their quest to find Hanuman and Urvashi, so who knows what'll happen?

//I just wanted to get this   r a n d o m   idea out there. I'll take it down if I need to. Anyways, thanks for reading!
