For the secrets; the ones that were hidden away in plain sight.
Everyone noticed the way she smiled when she was with him; the way he stared into her soul as she laughed. They were bound to be, there were just minor errors in their fate; timing, it always seemed to be a problem for them. Whether it be as simple as missing the bus, or something as problematic as a toxic ex-boyfriend coming into the equation.
Timing is what was keeping them apart; the ongoing problem.
