Playing with Knives

Chapter 8

  "I couldn't find it, someone must have taken it."

"That's fine I guess." Gloss says.

  "Where's Cato?" I ask

  "Why do you care?" Glimmer says.

  "Well he's my District partner and I don't trust either of you so I'd like to stay alive."

  Glimmer rolls her eyes.

  "He went to get food." She says.

  "Okay."

  I sit down on the ground and wait for Cato to get back. Tonight Glimmer is taking first watch then Gloss second. Once Cato got back he told me to follow him. So I did, he led me away from 1.

"Here." He says

He gives me a ring.

"What's this for?" I ask

"Sponsors, we'll make them believe we're in love." He whispers.

"Oh um okay." I say a bit disappointed.

We head back and go to sleep

  I woke and and was curious on who died.

  "Glimmer, what tributes died?"

  "District 5 female, District 6 female, that's all for the second night."

Two deaths, that means 5,6,8 and 9 districts are dead.

She looks at the ring on my finger.

"What's that?!" She asks.

"Oh this, Cato gave it to me."

She looked annoyed and angry.

"How could he like you." She said.

"Excuse me, you thought he liked you? That's sad even for you Glimmer. We've known each other for years, and you. Only for about a week."

"Just know in the end. I'm coming for you."

"Like I'm scared of a girl who can't even shoot."

She turns away and ignores me.

Cato wakes up to our bickering.

"You guys woke me up."

"I don't care you needed to get up anyways." I say

Cato took forever to get fully awake.

  "Let's go to the cornucopia and get some more supplies." Cato says.

  We follow him, I'm not sure he knows entirely where he's going. If he leads us to certain death then I can take care of my self.

  After a bit of walking through the forest, I seem storm clouds above. I didn't think much of it but suddenly red rain come pouring down on us. The second it touched my skin it burned. It was like hot boiling blood.

  "RUN GET TO THE WATER!" Someone screams.

  I run as fast as I can to the cornucopia. I get closer, its in sight. I hear a scream and someone fell. Then I hear two canons. I just focus on getting to the water then I'll worry. My feet hit the sand and I jump into the water. I can see Cato and Gloss behind me but no sign of Glimmer. She must have died from the boiling rain. I don't know who the other canon could be. All I care is that I made it out alive.
  Cato and Gloss take off their shirts to wash off, and I realized I'm now surrounded by two shirtless boys. I take down my hair to wash all the blood out of it. I look over at Cato, he saw me and winks. I turn my head quickly and blush a bit.

  "You looking at me Clove?" He says flirtatiously.

  "Um, no of course not." I say a bit embarrassed.

  "Okay calm down I'm just joking." He says with a bit of laughter.

  I continue washing myself off and ignoring him. 

  Out of the corner of my eye I see more people just across the lake. It looks like Johanna, Finnick, Peeta, and Katniss.

  "Shut up! There's more tributes across. They out number us easily so stop drawing attention to us!" I tell the guys.

  "Well then what should we do miss know it all?" Cato asks.

  "Are you trying to be annoying or is that just you? Just shut up and listen!"

  "Someone distracts the and the other two sneak attack from behind."

  "Works for me." Gloss says awkwardly being a third wheel.

  "Cato?" I ask.

  "Yeah alright fine."

  "Okay then, Gloss you go distract and Cato and I sneak from behind." I say.

  I turn around to see that they are gone. I look around and see them at the cornucopia. Cato starts to get on the bridge then suddenly it starts to move.

  "CATO GET OFF!" I scream at him.

  He jumps off towards me and I stumble as he tripped me. As I'm on the ground I look at the cornucopia. It's spinning, I see someone fall off. Then I see Katniss almost fall off but Johanna catches her hand. Their definitely alliances.
  It starts to spin faster and Katniss loses grip and falls into the water. I hope she died, but I didn't hear a canon. The cornucopia slows down and comes to a stop. This is our chance to get closer.

  "Guys let's get to the middle!"

  "Are you insane?" Cato asks.

  "Just a little now come on." I say.

  They follow me and we sneak onto the cornucopia from behind where they are. I see Finnick and Katniss get out of the water. Dang I had hoped she died but since she didn't, then she will now.

  We get a bit closer and Gloss goes and takes a dagger and sticks it in the female of District 3. Katniss turns around and shoots Gloss in the chest. Two canons go off. That idiot.
  Great our allies are dead. It's just me and Cato against District 12, Finnick, Johanna and the male from 3.
  They are all on already after Gloss made an appearance. They definitely assume we are allies with 1 so I bet they are watching for Cato and I.

    "Do you think we can take them? I whisper to Cato.

  "Let's wait for them to leave and we'll get them on the bridge." He replies.

  "Alright."

  We wait behind the cornucopia for them to leave. Then I see District 3 I aim and make sure it's perfect. Then I throw my knife and it hits him in the chest. He falls into the water, Katniss and Johanna run to him to see what happened. I cant see Finnick, he probably stayed with Peeta. They are looking around, I stay hidden. They look around to see who killed him.

  I look at Cato and whisper.

  "Don't move, when they turn away we go."

  We get in position. They turn away but still on guard.

  "Go." I whisper.

  I run towards Katniss and Cato holds Johanna off. Katniss shoots at me I turn to the side and dodge it but it hits me in the left arm. Thankfully I throw with my right. I throw my knife at her right arm. It slices the crease so now she cant shoot. She tries to run backwards but trips on her heals. I get closer and closer as she tries to get up. She gets to her feet and runs. I chase after her, but I can't leave Cato alone. She runs off into the woods. Well she's not going to be shoot anymore unless someone sponsors her. She must have gotten sponsors because her ankle is fully healed from the beginning.
  I hear a canon, I look around everyone is alive. Maybe Katniss ran into someone in the woods. I'll find out tonight.
