He found himself in a field of perfectly green grass swaying calmly in the wind. Little white flowers scattered among the green. Trees, beautiful trees surround the field, greeting him.
He felt calm, he was sitting in the grass wearing a flowy white shirt and pants. His blue eyes closed as he breathed in gently. Taking in the silence and tranquillity.
"You know why you're here?" A soft voice of a woman asked, she had dark hair and dark skin. Wearing the clothes of her people.
"How could I not. You should know better than I that I know these things mama."Alfred said, not opening his eyes
"Oh Maska,my sweet baby boy. It is too soon for you." The woman said, calmly hugging Alfred.
"I know, but it has already been decided." Alfred calmly opened his blue eyes "I am not good enough to represent the 50 states anymore. That will be put into the hands of my children. My precious babies."
"You knew they could replace you, why did you decide to have so many children?" She asked curious
"I knew the risk, yet. When I held little baby Delaware in my arms I knew I would love them all till the end." Alfred said with a smile thinking of his babies
"You are a great mother, you raised them well." She said softly rubbing his cheek.
"I got that from you Mama." Alfred whispered softly
"Are you frightened?" She asks
"No." Alfred replied
"Are you scared your babies won't be able to handle the country?" She asks softly
"No, they are young but they know what's best for the country. Even better than I. They may be immature but I know they will be able to do it. Together." Alfred answers firmly
"Your trust is admirable. You believe in your children. You're babies." She said
"They are your grandchildren too." Alfred answered.
Mother and son sat for a moment, in the soft green blanket of grass. Just sitting with the other with a form of mutual respect.
"What of Vanya?" Alfred asks softly
"The Russian Federation? I assume he will take the role of both parents and be there when the states need advice and comfort. He will miss you, but he will never be alone again. I'm pretty sure Alaska would beat his door down if he tried."
Alfred laughed softly, smiling as his mother pet his hair like she used to before. He had missed her.
"Matthew?" Alfred asks
"Kanata will be fine, shaken but he will have his children. Who are not naturally born but products of the land. Kanata and his children will co-exist until the end of Canada." She responds
Alfred nodded softly, he looked up at his mother with soft blue eyes.
"I have one favor to ask."
"Anything."
"I want a bit of time to say goodbye, I want to set up some guidance for my babies to follow. I want to apologize and say goodbye one last time." Alfred said
"I can only give you a week…" She said sadly
"That's more than enough." Alfred says softly
"I shall be seeing you soon Maska." She replied softly
